I Need t o Know

This module was designed and written with you in mind. It is here to help you
explain how the different organ systems work together (S6LT-IIc-d-2).The scope
of this module allows you to use it in many different learning situations. The language
used recognizes the diverse vocabulary level of students. The lessons are arranged
to follow the standard sequence of the course. But the order in which you read them
can be changed to correspond with the textbook you are now using.

This module has only one lesson:

 Lesson 1-How the Skeletal, Muscular, Integumentary and Nervous System

Work Together

After going through this module, you are expected to:

1. describe the functions of the skeletal, muscular, integumentary and
nervous system ; and
2. explain how the different body systems work together.
Lesson How the Skeletal, Muscular,
Integumentary and Nervous
1 System Work Together

Lesson Overview
How Do the Different Body Systems Work Together?

To keep you safe, all of your body structures have to function together. Just like the
organs working together in an organ system to complete their job, the different organ systems
also team up to keep the body working. For example, to help and move your body, your
bones and muscles work together.

The tables below present the functions of the different systems of your body and the
interactions they have with other systems.

II. (Suggested Answers)

1. The skeletal system works with the muscular system by providing something to pull
against the skeletal muscle so that the skeletal muscle can move and by giving support to
the body. While the muscular system works with the skeletal system by keeping bones in
place and moving the bones by contracting and pulling them.

2. The Integumentary system works with the nervous system by sending sensory
information from the nerves of the skin to the brain. While the nervous system works with
the integumentary system by processing messages from your senses, including touch, and
initiates actions.

3. The Nervous system works with the Skeletal system regulating the position of bones
through muscle control. While the Skeletal system works with the Nervous system to
protect the brain and the spinal cord.

Reflection:

These body systems are interconnected and dependent upon one another to function so
they cannot work on their own. All of the body systems have to work together to keep
us healthy. For example, our bones and muscles work together to support and move the
body. The respiratory system takes in oxygen from the air. It also gets rid of carbon
dioxide.
