This module was designed and written with you in mind. It is here to help you
explain how the different organ systems work together (S6LT-IIc-d-2).The scope
of this module allows you to use it in many different learning situations. The language
used recognizes the diverse vocabulary level of students. The lessons are arranged
to follow the standard sequence of the course. But the order in which you read them
can be changed to correspond with the textbook you are now using.
Lesson Overview
How Do the Different Body Systems Work Together?
To keep you safe, all of your body structures have to function together. Just like the
organs working together in an organ system to complete their job, the different organ systems
also team up to keep the body working. For example, to help and move your body, your
bones and muscles work together.
The tables below present the functions of the different systems of your body and the
interactions they have with other systems.
Skeletal System
(Composed of bones)
Nervous System
Integumentary System
(Composed of skin, hair nail, and glands)
Integumentary System
A. Make a cloth doll to understand the interaction between the skeletal and
muscular system. Follow the instructions below.
Materials:
Do this:
Pinch your skin lightly on the arm or leg. What do you feel?
Explain the role of the skin (integumentary system), and the nerves, spinal cord
and brain (nervous system) in feeling or experiencing such sensation from pinching.
Analysis questions:
1. Based on Activity A, how does the skeletal and muscular system work
together?

I Will Pract ice
A. Identify the body system that does the given function when they work together.
Choose between the following options: Skeletal, Muscular, Integumentary and
Nervous System
2. It regulates the speed at which food moves through smooth muscles in the
digestive tract.
This is the function of the ___________ system when it works with the muscular
system.
3. It works together with the muscles to maintain a stable inner body temperature.
This is the function of the ___________ system when it works with the muscular
system.
4. It supports skin at the scalp and other places where bone lies close to the
surface.
This is the function of the ___________ system when it works with the integumentary
system.
A. Determine the pair of systems involved in the given functions. Choose from
the options below.
Functions Answers
1. The brain uses the nerves to tell the muscles when to _______ and ________
move.
2. The receptors in the skin send sensory information to the _______ and ________
brain.
3. The bones store calcium from the skin to keep it strong and _______ and ________
healthy.
4. Skeletal muscles move the bones by contracting and _______ and ________
pulling them.
5. Muscles act with facial skin to create expressions. _______ and ________

Ana accidentally touches a hot surface and then quickly pulls her hand away. Trace
how the systems of our body work together in this situation by drawing an arrow from one
system to the other.

Answer Key
Concept Check
I. Multiple Choice. Read each item carefully. Select the letter of the best
answer.
1. Which of the following is NOT the function of the skin?
A. Regulation of body temperature
B. Excretion of body fluids
C. sensation
D. Body coordination
3. When your body encounters a sharp object, an impulse is sent to your brain that
causes a sudden action like moving away from the object. What body systems
are interacting that cause this response?
A. nervous and integumentary
B. nervous and muscular
C. nervous and skeletal
D. nervous and digestive
4. The muscular system interacts with the ____________ system to work with the
skin to control body temperature.
A. Digestive
B. Integumentary
C. Skeletal
D. Nervous
5. The skull protects the brain, and the spinal column protects the spinal cord. What
two systems are involved?
A. Skeletal and Nervous System
B. Integumentary and Digestive System
C. Muscular and Nervous System
D. Muscular and Skeletal System
6. The nervous system works together with the ___________ system to deliver the
impulses from the nerves to the muscles on what to do.
A. Integumentary
B. Digestive
C. Skeletal
D. Muscular
9. The Nervous system interacts with the ___________ system because the brain
controls the contraction of skeletal muscle.
A. Digestive

2. The Integumentary system works with the nervous system by sending sensory
information from the nerves of the skin to the brain. While the nervous system works with
the integumentary system by processing messages from your senses, including touch, and
initiates actions.
3. The Nervous system works with the Skeletal system regulating the position of bones
through muscle control. While the Skeletal system works with the Nervous system to
protect the brain and the spinal cord.
Reflection:
These body systems are interconnected and dependent upon one another to function so
they cannot work on their own. All of the body systems have to work together to keep
us healthy. For example, our bones and muscles work together to support and move the
body. The respiratory system takes in oxygen from the air. It also gets rid of carbon
dioxide.
