BOOLEAN ALGEBRA
Fundamental Operations

I. OBJECTIVES:

1. To utilize the fundamental operations of Boolean algebra in logic-


circuit measurements.
2. To investigate the equivalence of Boolean expressions.

II. MATERIALS:

1 - 7408 2-input AND gates


1 - 7432 2-input OR gates
1 - 7411 3-input AND gates
1 - 7404 hex inverter gates
1 - VOM
Power supply
Breadboard

III. PROCEDURES:

1. Construct the logic circuit in Figure 3-1. Use 0 = 0v dc and 1 =


+5 dc, and use the measured output voltage levels to complete the
truth table.

2. Construct the logic circuit in Figure 3-2. Use 0 = 0v dc and 1 =


+5v dc, and use the measured output voltage levels to
complete the values of X in the truth table. Now use the
measured output voltage levels from a 2-input OR gate as
shown in Figure 3-3. To complete the Y column in the table.

Now construct the logic circuit in Figure 3-5 and record the values
of Y.

4. Construct the logic circuit in Figure 3-6. Use 0 = 0v dc and 1 = +5v


dc, and use the measured output voltage levels to complete the
values of X in the truth table. Similarly, construct the circuit in
Figure 3-7, and record the values for Y. By perfect induction, are
the two networks equivalent? ______ Note the two input OR gates
used to construct a single 3-input OR gate in Figure 3-8.
