concepts and practicing new Very good! requesting someone to do something for you.
skills #1
Request sentence is a type of sentence used all the
time in almost all functions - in school, at home, at
a restaurant, and in other places you could imagine.

The typical sentence structure we associate in

making a request is the imperative sentence added
with please of kindly. Request sentences mirror
how big deal politeness is for people.

Request sentence structures can have the following

phrases:

Can I/ Can you…

Example: “Can you fix my shoelaces?”
Who else can give an example?
Yes JM? JM: Can you pass me the sauce?
Well done!

Could I/ Could you…

Example: “Could you minimize your voice?”
Who wants to give an example? Novie? Novie: Could I have the last slice?
Very good!

May I…
Example: “May I have this dance?”
Who else can give an example? Aimee? Aimee: May I give her the gift?

I have prepared a short clip of how to make a

request politely.

concepts and practicing new and asking permission? Any idea? Yes, Novie? Novie: The difference between making requests and
skills #2 asking permission is that asking permission is to
Exactly! take one's consent, whereas making a request is a
polite and casual way to ask.

How can we notice the difference between the two?

trouble

This is the chart of the structures of asking

permission and making requests.
Notice the subjects after the modals. The subject
(noun or pronoun) depends on who is asking the
permission or request. In the chart, you can see in
the first column that the subject is “I”, where it
represents for the person who is asking the
permission or consent. The subject may also be a
name of a person or other noun or pronoun. And in
the second column, the subject is “you”, where it
represents the person you want to request or do
something for you.

Here are some examples of the structures of asking

permission and making requests in a sentence.
Everybody please read.
