Marcela Mariño-Agoncillo
She is one of the most important person behind the making of the first and official flag of the
Philippines and the mother of the Philippine flag. She is a daughter of a rich family in taal batangas and
she finished her studies in Santa Catalina College in which she acquired her skills in music and making
crafts. She married Felipe Agoncillo when she turned 30 and they have six children. When Felipe
Agoncillo, her husband was exiled in hongkong they followed him and they decided to temporarily live
there. Pres. Emilio Aguinaldo visited them and he requested her to sew a flag that would represent the
republic of the Philippines. Lorenza Agoncillo and Mrs. Delfina Herbosa de Natividad help her. The Flag
was finished in 5 days but their hands suffered because at first they have to redo it for the reason that
the rays of the sun were not in proper direction. The flag became known as the sun and the stars flag
and now it was located in aguinaldo’s house in kawit cavite.
2. Julian Felipe
He was the composer of the Philippine Nat’l Anthem. His composition titled “Marcha Nacional
Filipinas” was played during the declaration of Philippine Independence on June 12, 1898 in Gen.
Aguinaldo’s house in kawit, cavite.
3. Jose Palma
His full name is Jose Palma y Velasquez. His poem entitled Filipinas was published for the first
time in the anniversary issue of La Independencia on Sept. 3, 1899. The words in his poem fit in the tune
of Julian Felipe’s “Marcha Nacional Filipina”.
Was a treaty signed by Spain and the United States on December 10, 1898, that ended the
Spanish–American War. In the conference commissioners of United States and Spain discussed the
major conflict in the current situation of the Philippines that time. United States paid Spain 20 million
dollars for the possession of the Philippines. For better enlightenment the Treaty of Paris marked the
end of the Spanish Empire.
