Script for Principles of Art:

Hi students! It’s me again, Ms. Gelaga. Today, we shall delve on the principles of
art. At the end of this lesson, you shall be able to: Identify the different
principles of art; Define each principle of art; and Appreciate the relevance of
each principle. Are you ready? Let’s begin.

The principles of art describe the ways that artists use the elements of art in a
work of art. It is also considered as the tools to make artworks.

Here are the different principles of art:

First, is balance it is the distribution of the visual weight of objects, colors,
texture, and space. In other words, this is the way the elements are arranged to
create a feeling of stability in a work. Balance can be symmetrical, meaning the
parts of an image are organized so that one side mirrors the other. It can also
be asymmetrical, meaning, one side of a composition does not reflect the design
of the other.
Next is the Emphasis, it is the focal point of an image, or when one area or thing
stands out the most. Notice in the picture provided, the emphasis is focused to
the apple.
Further, we have Contrast, it is large difference between two things to create
interest and tension. See example photo where the light of the sunset
completely contrasts the leaves of the palm tree.
To continue, we have Rhythm and Movement, per se it is regular repetition of
elements to produce the look and feel of movement. Example of which is the
ever famous Starry Night of Vincent Van Gogh.
Next slide is pattern and repetition, This is the repetition of the design motif,
clearly shown in the artwork on your screen.
Other principle is, Unity, it is where all the elements and principles work
together to create a pleasing image.
This is followed by Variety, it is the use of several elements of design to hold the
viewer’s attention and to guide the viewer’s eye through and around the work
of art.
Lastly, Proportion, it is the comparative relationship of one part to another with
respect to size, quantity, or degree; SCALE
