1) This activity is a multiple selection.

Questions: Biomedical transducer that is used to monitor patients in the intensive care
unit include:
a. Epc Electrodes
b. EEG Electrodes
c. EKG Electrodes
d. EMG Electrodes
e. EOG Electrodes
f. Finger pulse oximeter
g. Occupational Electrodes

2) This activity is a matching.

Question: Please read the next question and make a matching with the correct response.

4 Resolution_D_
A. The minimum and maximum
5 Reproducibility_E_ operating limits that the sensor is
expected to measure accurately.
3 Precision_C_ B. Difference between the true value
1 Range_A_ and the actual value measured by
the sensor
2 Accuracy_B_ C. Degree of measurement
reproducibility
D. The smallest distinguishable input
change that can be detected with
certainty
E. How close the measurements are
when the same input is measured
repeatedly over time

3) This activity is a discussion titled Implantable

biosensor
Question: Discuss the important considerations in the selection of materials for
packaging of an implantable biosensor.

An electromechanical biosensor is defined as an analysis device

autonomous capable of providing specific quantitative or semi-quantitative information
using a biological recognition element, which can be
proteins (enzymes, monoclonal, polyclonal, recombinant antibodies),
DNA or RNA strands, tissue sections, microorganisms, etc.
for all live measurements, the implantable devices disrupt the environment and initiate a
answer. This results in a 50% loss of sensitivity in live compared to in vitro values.
Biocompatibility of implants are considered from the perspective of events related to the
inflammatory response: the influence of the initial inflammatory response, especially in
the absorption of biomolecules, their effect on the host, which can influence the sensor
response and degradation
It must be taken in a ditch that the material must be impermeable, it must also be
ensured that bacteria cannot enter the biosensor
4) This activity is an essay.
1. From picture below identify the biomedical instrumentation and write its function for
the measurement on the human body or its function in CIU.

An electrocardigram, with this the electrical signal of the heart is

recorded to look for different heart conditions. Electrodes are placed in the chest to record the
electrical signals from the heart that cause the heartbeat.

The blood pressure monitor, also known as a blood pressure monitor, is a

device that measures the force exerted by blood flow on the walls of the arteries and
detects two types of pressures: systolic and diastolic.

Doppler is a noninvasive test that calculates blood flow in blood vessels by bouncing
high-frequency sound waves (ultrasound) off circulating red blood cells.

The otoscope is an instrument with a beam of light that helps visualize

and examine the condition of the ear canal and eardrum. The ear exam may reveal the
cause of some symptoms such as pain or feeling full in the ear or hearing loss.
An ultrasound scanner is an ultrasound medical device used to
perform ultrasounds. Its high-frequency sound waves allow to explore the interior of the
body, generating sequences of images – two-dimensional and three-dimensional – of
organs, muscles, tendons, ligaments and nerves, among other formations.

Surgical lamps are devices that emit a light which illuminates a

surgical field for a long time, for optimal visualization of small, low-contrast objects at
varying depths or through small incisions.

The heart monitor operates with the use of electrodes connected to the
patient that transform the ionic current of the human heart into low amplitude electronic
current (100uV to 5mV), in turn it is amplified to be digitized.

Suctioner, used to evacuate large volumes of gas, liquids, tissues and

other debris from a surgical wound by suction during surgical procedures.
