Instructions: Write a one-sentence description of self according to the following philosophers.

Philosophers One sentence definition


of self
Socrates Self is an immortal and unified entity that is consistent over time,
or in other words, it is unique and can never be the same with
someone else’s.
Plato Self is divided into three parts, namely reason (divine essence),
physical appetite (biological needs), and spirit/passion (basic
emotions).
St. Augustine Self is related to God as by believing in Him, man is one step
closer to understanding one’s self.
Descartes Self is a thinking being that is self-aware and engages in mental
operations.
Locke Self is the consciousness of a person and is evident in our ability
to think and reason in different situations.
Hume Self is a fictional self as it isn’t real and is created base on one’s
impressions and ideas stemming from his perception of self.
Kant Self is the product of reason that regulates experiences into a
unified experience understood as a characteristic or behavior.
Freud Self is divided into 2 types: the conscious and unconscious self
and is governed by the id, ego, and superego.
Ryle Self is how a person behaves in a certain way in certain
situations.
Churchland Self is the product of the brain functions due to its biochemical
properties.
Merleau-Ponty Self is how we perceive ourselves.
