Septic Tank Deisgn: (1999 REV. NPC)

This document provides guidelines for designing septic tanks according to the 1999 National Plumbing Code of the Philippines. It outlines estimating waste flow rates based on occupancy, determining minimum septic tank capacity, and procedures for setting dimensions and ensuring volume requirements are met. Dimensions include width, depth, length of the overall tank and of the digestive and leaching chambers. Standards are also provided for additional design elements like airspace, pipes and manholes.

unit or number of apartment units in dwelling
occupancies

1. Determine the type of occupancy of the
building/structure
2. Determine the minimum septic tank capacity
3. Set a desired WIDTH and DEPTH based on the siting
location and lot restrictions. Ensure to follow the
minimum standards
4. Compute for the Length of Septic Tank by Dividing the
Minimum Septic capacity to the Width and Height set in
no. 3.

Length
5. Determine the Length of the digestive chamber and
leaching chamber using the minimum volume ratio. (2/3
digestive chamber; 1/3 leaching chamber)

Length

2/3 1/3

2/3 1/3
6. Adjust the computed lengths (digestive & leaching)
preferably to a one decimal point. Then provide the
adjusted length of the septic tank

Adjusted
Length

2/3 1/3

2/3 1/3
5. Provide the standards for airspace, inlet & outlet
pipes, manholes, thickness, etc
5. Validate the computed size by computing the volume
and comparing it to the minimum standards

Leaching
