replaced by a new transmission or an exchange transmission, this
Service Bulletin must be enclosed in a plastic cover together with
the transmission. A completed copy for each occasion must
accompany the replaced unit, otherwise the claim will not be
approved.
NOTE!
This report must be added in Techline not later than five days after
the inspection date.
The replaced transmission must be cleaned and packed to give
maximum protection during the return transportation.

NOTE!
In case of insufficient packing, charges will be debited regardless
of whether the claim is correct or not.
This routine applies to a transmission ordered on an exchange
number or a production number.
The purpose is to safeguard the quality of the returned units with
regard to quality follow-up and to facilitate reconditioning and
provide our Service Department with up-to date information.

During passive measuring of resistance of the cable harness to the transmission, it is important that a check for
possible "leaking" (harking) between all terminals and also to ground is carried out in addition to the measuring
of the checking points listed in the Service Manual. When, for example, measuring between EC26 and EC27 one
should also measure between EC26 and all other terminals in EA, EB and EC, which lead to the transmission.
Faulty cable harness must be returned for analysis together with any replaced transmission.
Under warranty: Yes No

Pressure check at 900 rpm and at an oil temperature of

50°C (122 °F):
NOTE!
If the machine is an A25F, A30F, A35F, A35F FS, A40F or an
A40F FS, also Service Bulletin 420 ART 82, "Transmission,
functional check", must be filled in and enclosed.
Measuring when ground speed = 0, engine speed should be 900
±25 rpm.
• When measuring at speeds > 0, the accelerator pedal should
be let up and no engine brake or retarder should be activated
when the measuring value is read off.
• Operate on a level and smooth surface.
• The shift lock-out function may not be activated.
• The transmission temperature must be at least 50 °C (122 °F).
• The machine must not be loaded.

Checklist for replacing transmission: (Does not have to be

sent in)

Temperature / Cooling system

Check that the temperature gauge works.
Check that the warning signal for overheating works.
Check and clean the radiator on the machine.
Make sure the correct coolant mixture is used.
If the transmission oil has been contaminated, the transmission heat exchangers must also always be
replaced.
NOTE!
It is not possible to clean them because of the way they are designed.
Flush through pipes and hoses and make sure that no particles/dirt are left inside them. Otherwise they
must be replaced.

Oil type and correct oil level

Check that the oil meets Volvo's specifications.
Check the oil level, see the Operator's Manual (before and after test-running).

Software
NOTE!
Check whether the new transmission requires new software/ECU/PROM.
If new software is downloaded, check that all parameters are correct.

Machine/transmission
Check that cable harnesses and connectors are functional.
Make sure that the current supply on the machine is correct.

Check error codes

Read off error codes and rectify any faults.

Miscellaneous
Fill in and send in the inspection form according to the latest Service Bulletin.
Return the replaced transmission heat exchangers together with the transmission.
