When I got inside the meeting, I was the first observer to get in and noticed many
students are turning on their cameras unlike in colleges. I also saw one teacher and
three student teachers preparing for their class presentation. The first thing the student-
teacher did was to check the technicalities if they can see or hear her and if they view
her presentation. Next, she started her lecture by asking the students about the
previous lesson they had which was the Different Types of Speech and Speech
According to Delivery. Next, she introduced activities that need students’ participation
and slowly integrated as I recognized as a part of the content standard, the African
Literature. The activities consist of listening to “Scars to your beautiful” and showing
them a video about the hardships of African people in their own country. Students were
participative, engaging, and answering questions prodigiously. Then, the student
teachers are establishing a connection between the activities and the competency and
the lesson proper by introducing a poem entitled “Africa”, a poem written by David Diop.
After asking students to read the poem the teachers discussed the poem first by what
the students understood after reading it and then moved on from discussing the
elements found in the poem. The teacher then talked about the free verse structure of
the poem and restatement. Students were also asked if the poem “Africa” is free verse
or not. However, the time was insufficient to finish the whole discussion, so they stop
there and finish the discussion.
I can say that it was a memorable experience, getting on the field and viewing
what an actual classroom setting felt like. I felt wonderful and at the same time so
nervous as I see a lot of pictures in my mind if I were the one what the student-teacher
are doing. Being exposed to this field had me realize about a lot of things about a
teacher and that this profession is not easy with all the responsibilities of molding
students and leading them to the path of learning and success. Lastly, through this
exposure, I have developed a better perception of what kind of teacher I will be in the
future.
