LEARNING GUIDE IN
English for Academic and Professional Purposes

ABOUT THE SUBJECT

This subject aims to develop communication skills in English for Academic and Professional
Purposes. Students will be devoted on academic texts and will create academic paper.

This subject is considered as an Applied Subject which means all Senior High School
students will take this subject. This subject is designed to focus on the specific application
on student’s chosen career track or learning strand.

STUDY GUIDE

Distance learning is quite challenging. However, it is satisfying once you completed all the
tasks given to you on time. The modules were created for you to learn from the lessons,
discover what you can do, and explore academic life while you are in a safe space. As a
Senior High student, you are expected to be a more responsible student than before.

The following guides will help you to be on track:

1. Time management. Divide your time well. Plan what subject you will do at specific
time frame. This will keep you from being overwhelmed with school works.
2. Read everything with comprehension. Understand what you read. It is really
important for you to be able to answer your activities.
3. Find a learning space. Find a space where you can study your lessons and answer
the activities. It should be free from noise, well-ventilated, well lighted, and a
learning space where you feel comfortable.
4. Reach out to people. It is good if you reach out to other people like your
classmates, family member, and your teachers. Seek help if needed.
5. Practice online etiquette. We are in an online community to learn. As a student of
Christ the King College, you are expected to observe proper behavior. Avoid
engaging in bullying and breaching one’s privacy. Be a responsible student-netizen.

CLASS REQUIREMENTS

As a student of this class, you are required to accomplish these things:

1. Join FB group. You have to be a member of the Facebook Group created for this
subject. Some of the learning activities will be posted on Facebook Group.
Announcements will also be posted in the group. It is your responsibility as a
student to monitor the posts online.
2. Enroll on Google Classroom. Another learning platform that we will use is Google
Classroom. Make sure to enroll on Google Classroom using the code that I have given
to your section. The following are the uses of Google Classroom:
a. Online Access of Learning Materials – The materials found in your flash
drives are also available on Google Classroom. In case there are problems
with your digital files, you can download the materials on Google
classroom.
b. Checking of Attendance – Attendance will be checked on the Google
Classroom. If you will not be able to have an attendance, just inform me
ahead of time.
c. Checking of Activities and Quizzes – There are activities in your module
that can be checked online. After answering some of the activities in your
notebook, you can check your answers on Google Classroom. Quizzes are
also given through Google Classroom.
d. Answer sheet – Occupy the space given in every activity for your answers.
But there are activities that you need to write it in a separate sheet so
always read the directions given.

3. Learning Materials. Learning materials will be given to you on your flash drive.
The book is a requirement for this subject. You cannot perform the tasks in the
module unless you will have a copy of the book. Remember also to follow the
learning steps in the module to achieve the best results.
4. Term Project. There would only be one project for every term. But this would still
depend on the performance of the entire class. I will announce your project later on
the Facebook group.

ABOUT THE TEACHER

I am Joyce Mellano Paña, your English for Academic and Professional Purposes. This is
my third teaching experience; my first was in STI Calbayog as a Senior High School teacher,
and the second one was in Schools Division of Calbayog as a substitute teacher in Junior
High School. Back then, I handled different subjects which challenged me to give my best
every day during those times. Because of these moments in my career life, I have been
molded to who am I today.

I enjoyed my experiences in teaching because I have learned a lot from different walks
of life. Now that I am into my third teaching experience, I always hope to learn something
from every one of you and to enjoy this wonderful journey ahead.

If you have questions about the lessons, you can message me on messenger, during our
online classes, or consultation time. Please be polite all the time.
