Course Title: Community Health Nursing 1


Course No.: NCM 104
Course Credit: Theory 2 units (36 hours)
Placement: Second Year, First Semester
Pre-requisite: NCM 103

Course Description:
This course deals with concepts, principles, theories and techniques in the provision of basic care in
terms of health promotion, disease prevention, restoration and maintenance and rehabilitation at the
family and individual level. It includes the study of the Philippine Health Care Delivery System, National
Health Situation and the global context of public health. The learners are expected to provide safe,
appropriate and holistic nursing care to individual and family as clients in community setting utilizing the
nursing process.

Course Intended Learning Outcomes:


1. Integrate relevant principles of social, physical, natural and health sciences and humanities in a given
health and nursing situation.
2. Discuss appropriate community health nursing concepts and actions holistically and comprehensively.
3. Assume responsibility for lifelong learning, own personal development and maintenance of
competence.
4. Engage in advocacy activities to influence health and social care service policies and access to services.
5. Model professional behavior as a community health nurse.
6. Assess with the individual and family ones health status/competence.
7. Formulate with the client a plan of care to address the health conditions, needs, problems and issues.
8. Provide health education using selected planning models to targeted clientele (individuals and
families) in the community.
9. Implement safe and quality interventions with the client to address the health needs, problems, and
issues.
10. Provide safe, appropriate and evidence-based nursing interventions in the different categories of
health care.
11.Ensure intra-agency, inter=agency, multidisciplinary and sectoral collaboration in the delivery of
health care.
12. Coordinate the tasks/functions of other nursing personnel (midwife, BHW and utility worker )
13. Collaborate with GOs, NGOs and other socio-civic agencies to improve health care services.
14. Adhere to established norms of conduct based on the Philippine Nursing Law and other legal,
regulatory and institutional requirements relevant to safe nursing practice.
15. Protect client rights based on Patients Bill of Rights and Obligations.
