The purpose of this research paper is to identify the scientific reasoning behind the
services that Ms. Janine offers. Out of her services, sugaring, reiki, frequency, and sound healing
will be discussed. Along with each source and its corresponding information, an evaluation and
Body sugaring can be tracked all the way back to Ancient Egyptian times[ CITATION Bas20
\l 1033 ][ CITATION Reb19 \l 1033 ]. Hair removal was done using a natural mixture of sugar,
lemon, and water; what we now know as sugaring. Contrary to American traditions of waxing,
sugaring is more gentle and less abrasive to the skin [ CITATION Moe17 \l 1033 ]. The reason why
this natural ancient method is more gentle than European traditions of waxing, is that instead of
the paste attaching to the skin and hair, it only surrounds the root of the hair follicles. So, when it
is pulled out, it only pulls out the hair and not the skin. Sugaring is also an amazing and
The sources that were used to explain the process of sugaring were all extremely useful,
since a lot of their claims were supported by professionals in skin health and beauty. A lot of the
information about the effects and efficiency of sugaring were objective. However, the origin and
Harry 3
reasons that sugaring may have been used in ancient times, seemed to be a little inconsistent
from other sources. Nevertheless, the sources have clear and educational information on the
background of sugaring.
Despite the process of sugaring being very new to me, I learned how ancient this practice
is. However, understanding sugaring and its efficiency makes more sense as to why majority of
Ms. Janine’s clients go to her for a sugaring appointment. However, not only have these
resources showed me the business side of sugaring, but I also learned about how much more
natural and holistically healing sugaring can be. Because it is used with natural ingredients,
clients will experience less negative side effects that they would experience if they continued
waxing. So, when Ms. Janine has clients for sugaring, they are opening themselves up to being
enlightened about the benefits of natural products. This source has added onto my product
because it proves that holistic methods have better results than non-holistic methods.
The next service that Ms. Janine offers, is called reiki. Ms. Janine uses reiki to help her
clients relieve stress and align their energy meridians. reiki is a Japanese originating art, also
known as biofield therapy, that “uses hands on healing to restore the full energetic function of
the body’s systems” [CITATION NA21 \l 1033 ]. Additionally, this is done through the autonomic
nervous system, and creates optimal physical and emotional wellness allowing for the body to
self-heal on a physical, emotional, and spiritual level. This practice, that is over 1,000 years old,
has been used to help with arthritis, postpartum depression, anxiety, headaches, and more.
So, despite there being little research that strongly support reiki and its efficiency, there
are people who have experienced benefits. Nevertheless, the source used to provide the
background information of reiki healing was very useful since it was founded after the creator,
Dr. Mikao Usui. Additionally, the source does have evidence of scientific research, however the
Harry 4
labs showed no evidence strongly supporting the beneficial claims of this energy healing
practice. Nevertheless, this website was helpful in providing the history, uses, and potential
benefits of reiki.
This source, and the information provided, fit into my product and research very well.
Since my final presentation will be all holistic health, reiki helps me have a better understanding
of spiritual healing. It was very enlightening to learn that the creator of reiki went through a
spiritual awakening to create this 1,000-year-old practice. This showed me that the mind and the
spirit connect to the wellbeing of a person. So, despite there being few scientific evidence
showing that reiki is reliable, if your mind is confident in the practice of reiki working then there
The last service that will be discussed is sound frequency and sound healing. As Albert
Einstein said himself, “Everything in life is vibration.” Just like how we were taught in chemistry
class, each object—whether it be solid, liquid, or gas—has atoms that move at fast or slow rates,
in the end atoms are always moving and creating types of energy. One way to measure the
movement of atoms and their energy is called frequency. Frequency is the rate of vibrations per
from the 5G waves we receive on our phones, TV, laptops, tablets, and more. However, such
interactions with 5G frequencies are considered hazardous to our health [ CITATION Lil21 \l 1033 ].
frequencies in our life, one way to address this problem is through sound healing.
Harry 5
Everything in life, whether it be a rock or a bird, has a certain basic frequency that
determines their health. For humans, our optimal frequency of 62-70 MHz, and when it drops
below 58Hz we are more prone to diseases[ CITATION Lil21 \l 1033 ]. Even our cells exchange
information and regulate body functions by sending and receiving specific frequencies, therefore
Since sound is more efficient as a frequency carrier than light when it comes to
influencing cells, our bodies can more efficiently react to sound waves. This is also very helpful
since we are made up of 75% water [ CITATION Lil21 \l 1033 ]. Additionally, there are Researchers
such as Lee Lorenzen, Professor Saykally and other geneticists who studied the functionality of
DNA (DNA also contains water). They found that the health and optimal performance of DNA is
determined by the amount of energized water molecules within the DNA matrix. Since energized
water is water charged with a specific frequency, these charged molecules form a structure.
Which, in turn, allows them to form clusters that make it easier for DNA signaling to occur more
This source was extremely useful since it also provided evidence with scientific research
showing clear results. Although, this source gave a lot of backed-up evidence, the author did
include moments of bias to promote their business. However, despite the opinions that were
injected within the article, the author still made sure to provide claims that were backed up by
This source, out of the rest of them, was the most helpful. The resources used for sound
healing had a lot of sound evidence on the efficiency of frequencies and vibrations on our bodies.
Additionally, the information I received from these sources helped me connect the dots with
A potential scenario to see the connection between all of Ms. Janine’s services would be
this: a client would have a sugaring appointment, and once they are done they receive a reiki
session. When a reiki Practitioner does reiki on a client, they can use sound bowls to activate or
balance certain energy meridians. So, with the combination of sound with directed energy
facilitated through reiki, the client would have a holistic experience—addressing their mind,
body, and spirit. This scenario created with the information that I have collected, has provided
me with an idea of how I would like to structure my final product, thus adding on to my final
presentation.
