WELCOME

Old Tape Drums is sample library for Kontakt that a full drum kit recorded using an analog tape
recorder with full control over the sound and the personality of the instrument.

THE LIBRARY

RECORDING SESSION
Ludwig Vistalite drum kit recorded in mono into a cassette tape. Includes tape hiss, tape speed
and cassette sound effects for play, stop, pause, rewind and fast forward.
Very grungy, very lo-fi but full of character.

FEATURES
Old Tape Drums offers supreme sound quality, and the features couldn't be less than that, so we
remade the script to let you control any single parameter that you may wish.
• Full recorded Ludvig Vistalite drum kit.
• Control over the tape noises and sound.
• Transport sound effects.
• Effects page in which you can add any of the included 23 DSP effects: convolution with 30+
custom impulses, EQ, compression, chorus, flanger, tape simulation, transient shaper and many
more.
• Fresh and new 3D rendered GUI for the best user experience and inspiration.

REQUIREMENTS AND INSTALLATION

REQUIREMENTS
Since this library is not powered by Kontakt, you need the full version of Kontakt 5.7.3 or superior
in order to load it without restriction. Kontakt Player Free will load the library but you’ll have to
restart it every 15/30 minutes.

INSTALLATION
You’ll find the Old Tape Drums.nki file inside the Instruments folder. There are two methods for
loading the library: drag and drop the Old Tape Drums.nki file into Kontakt’s interface, or you can
browse this same file using the Kontakt built-in browser.
The “Add library” function won’t work because it’s only for “powered by Kontakt” libraries, aka
libraries that work with Kontakt Player Free.

GUI

MAIN

This is the main view that will appear when you first load the library. From the menu bar in the
bottom you can select the different pages.

Here you can see a representation of a tape player:

• Tape Speed: controls the speed of the tape when playing the samples.
• Tape Tune: controls the tune of the samples when are played.
• Link: links the value of both tape parameters to keep them synchronised.
• Noise Volume: tape noise volume.
• Noise Color: tape noise color.
• Transport buttons: control the noise and the behavior of the tape.

EFFECTS

The instrument comes with a very advanced script for handling audio effects. You can insert any
effect in any order you want.
From the top module you only have to click on the slot you want to insert the effect and a menu
will appear displaying the list of available effects: EQ, compressor, bus compressor, feedback
compressor, limiter, transient shaper, convolution, reverb, delay, phaser, chorus, flanger, lo-fi, tape,
saturation, distortion, skreamer, Marsh J amp, Twang amp, rotator, cabinet, stereo and gain.
Select the effect you want to insert and the correspondent module will be placed in the effects
pool. You can't have the same effect twice. If you have more than 4 effects loaded some of them
will be placed outside the pool range, in that case you can use the scroll placed on the right of the
page.

GENERAL TIPS
There are a few tips that will ease your workflow:
• Control + click on Windows, or Command + click on Mac on any control will revert it to the
default value.
• You can see each value in the messages bar while you tweak the parameters.
• If you hold shift while dragging a control it will trigger the fine-tune mode.
• If you hear any kind of distortion, turn down Kontakt's main volume slider.
