General Physics Module 9 - 14

This document summarizes a physics student's work and learning from Module 9. It includes activities on work and force, such as identifying examples of work, solving physics problems involving force and displacement, and explaining the conditions under which work is zero, positive, or negative. The student demonstrates understanding of key physics concepts like force, displacement, and calculating work from force and distance. The document ends with an assessment to check the student's comprehension.

What I Know

Lesson 1
What’s In
Activity 1. Crossword Puzzle

Activity 2. Work or No work?

A.
Activity Work, W or No work, N
1. A boy is running across a playground. W
2. A mother is dancing with her baby in N
her arms
3. A basket is being lifted. W
4. A person is in an ascending elevator. W
5. A stone is whirled around a horizontal W
circle.

What’s New
Activity 3. Let’s Work!!
Guide Questions:
I. Did you apply force in lifting the book? in pushing a table? In pushing the
wall?
In science, a push or pull on an object is referred to as a force, which is why I
use force to lift the book, push a table, and push the wall.
II. If yes in each case, in what direction did you apply force?
I applied force in the same direction to two objects, which added to each
other. Since the net force exerted on an object is equal to the difference between the
two forces when they act in opposite directions.
III. Did the objects move? If yes, in what direction was the book moved? In
what direction was the table moved?
The book and table do not move in any direction because they are both
equally hard. Since we've discovered that one force can be larger or smaller than the
other.  The magnitude of a force is commonly used to describe its strength. We must
additionally specify the force's direction of action. Also, if the applied force's direction
or amount varies, the effect changes as well.

Activity 4. Solve me!!!
1.
1. Pulling the luggage

Given: F=20 N
Θ= 30
d= 5cm

Solution:
W= (F cos Θ) d
= (20N cos 30) 5m
W= 87 J

2. Lifting the Luggage

Given: m= 10 kg
d= 5m
Find: W

Solution:

First determine the weight of the luggage.

F= mg
= (10kg) (9.8 m/s2)
= 9.8 kg∙m/s2 or 98 N
Then solve for W
W= F∙d
= (98N) (1.5m)
W= 147 J
3. Carrying the luggage
The force in the luggage is perpendicular to the direction of motion. The distance moved in
the direction of fore is zero. Therefore, work is zero. Hence, the OFW does not work in
carrying the luggage.

What I Have Learned

Activity 5. Answer me!
1. How work is done? Explain
When a force is applied to an object and that object moves, work is done.
Work (W = F * d) is computed by multiplying the force by the amount of movement of
an object. 30 n-m work is done by a force of 10 newtons that moves an item 3
meters.  To be considered working, you must both apply force and move something.
2. When does work become zero, positive, and negative?
If the displacement is either zero or perpendicular to the force, the work done
by the force is zero. If the force and displacement are in the same direction, the work
done is positive; if they are in the opposite direction, the work done is negative.

Activity 6. Calculate Me!!
1.

a. Unbalanced force
b. Motion

Given:
3 Kg (9.8 m/s^2) = 29.4 N - Force
2 m - distance
Formula:
w = f•d
Solution:
w = 29.4 N • 2 m
w = 58.8 N•m or J
Final Answer:
Therefore, the force you must apply to move the book is 58.8 J.
