WORK METHOD STATEMENT FOR
Aerated BLOCK WORK

OBJECTIVE:
The objective of this method statement is to carry out the Aerated BLOCK
work by meeting the technical specification and complying with Standards.

SCOPE:
The scope of this method statement includes Aerated BLOCK work at ISB
while executing it in accordance with Technical specifications.

TOOLSAND TACKLES:
 Mixing tray
 Plumb bob
 Right angle
 Nylon thread
 Hammer
 Chisel
 Trowel
 Spade
 Mortar pan
 Level pipe

MATERIAL USED:
 Aerated Blocks
 8mm dia Fe 500 bars
 M-20 grade concrete
 Adhesive
SAFETY PRECAUTION:
 Induction to all the personnel involved by JRD safety manager.
 Toolbox talks will be conduct regular by safety manager
 Issue of a permit by Client FM Managers.
 Use of appropriate PPE.
 Barricading if required
 Prevention of use of any hazardous material
 Appropriate supervision

PROCEDURE:
General:
 Ensure Material approval prior to start work
 Ensure approved drawing available prior to start of work
 Carry out markings marking as per approved drawing
 Take clearance from services (MEP) before start of work (if required).
 Ensure necessary safety precautions are in place prior to start.
 Check list to be approved by CBRE managers prior to start work

Block work
Preparatory work
Ensure the availability of detailed layout of the building showing room
dimensions, thickness of walls at various locations on the floor plate
and all the details of openings to be coordinated.

Starting of block work


 Mark on the surface to establish the wall lines to attain proper layout
of block work and maintain mark till the first course is fully laid.
 Scrub and clean with proper tool, hack the concrete surface where
new block work is to be done.
 Blocks should not be damp at the time of starting masonry. When
much water is present on the blocks then the mortar will become
watery leading to a weak masonry. The blocks must be semi dry.
 Mix quantity of mortar, which will be consumed in next 2 hours only.
Mixing shall be done with proper measurement of ingredients. Mixing
platform must be clean.
 Mixing mortar shall be in accordance with good practice.

Block laying, alignment & jointing


 Carry out one row of block work with dry bond, wall to establish the
proper spacing of blocks.
 Lay one block at a time and & gently pressing it in the mortar bed.
 Use a line thread from one end to end with a line pipe.
 Excess mortar coming out on the edges to be taken by the trowel and
buttered to the cross directional joint or head joint surface of the next
block being laid.
 Use straight edge on the top of the blocks laid and check the top level.
 Repeat the above points for building more courses. After every two
courses of block work laid, check the verticality and level by plumb
bob and level the tube, sight down the wall.
 At first and second lintel(at every 1.2meter) from the floor level
concrete binder in the proportion of M-20 grade, 2 no’s of 8mm dia Fe
500 bars concrete reinforced lintel to be laid.
 For door lintel, concrete binders in the proportion of M-20 grade, 4
no’s of 8mm dia Fe 500 bars with stirrups concrete reinforced lintel to
be laid.
 Provision to be made for cut-outs (openings for sanitary, electrical,
firefighting or any other services) and after completion of the services
work, all the cut-outs and openings to be made good, matching the
surroundings with grout/Sealant.
 The gyp plaster shall be sufficient thickness to fill up all undulations in
the surface of masonry and to provide the true surface for wall.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
 Site Engineer: He shall be responsible for Executing in safe work
method as per Drawings and guide the supervisors and work men.
 Site Supervisor: He shall be responsible managing all plant and
machineries and labor and safety of the workers.
 QA/QC In charge: He shall be responsible for ensuring the quality of
work as per the Specifications and standards.
 HSE Manager/Engineer: He shall be responsible for assisting to
engineer/supervisor to ensure the safety of workers during the
progress of work. Safety inductions of each staff and workers shall be
done and daily PPE check to be done and tool box talk shall be carried
out before the start of work. General safety awareness as well as
particular safety precautions and guidelines for activity to be carried
out in that particular day shall be discussed.
 Stores officer: He shall be responsible for storing of all materials. Also
responsible for maintaining the record of incoming and outgoing and
up to date stock details of materials.
