and viewed closely i-e civil engineering. The reason is that we have our own Construction
Company for more than 30 years. For many years I have seen my father discussing with his
employees about different projects and the construction process involved in them. I have been
visiting sites with them; it always used to make me wonder how the execution of any project is
done. Moreover the society or environment I live in there is always construction going on of
new modern buildings or repairing of roads. As I continued through my schooling, I began to
grow a deeper interest in science and mathematics. These factors kind of helped me to decide
that I want to be a Civil Engineer as a professional.
Civil Engineering as I accept is the field where one's work can be seen and felt straightforwardly
by the faculties and anything done stays everlastingly to the credit. For me, Civil Engineering
has always been a path to explore newer ways to solve a particular question, to create
innovative pathways, to tackle and resolve issues concerning natural catastrophes and human
residential and commercial safety. Hence, due to my curiosity about the concepts, logic and
theories behind the structural foundations of a building, I decided to pursue Bachelors in Civil
Engineering.
During my time at NED University, while pursuing Civil Engineering, apart from learning
conceptual theories I gained hands-on experience on site work. While keeping up with my class
work, I managed to take some extra time out for my second passion and side hobby;
Photography. Furthermore, I even completed two internships: one at a multinational
Construction Company EA Consulting and one at a local Pakistani corporation named Dynamic
Associates.
I worked in the structural department at EA Consultancy. My role was to design the slabs and
beams of buildings, particularly school buildings, on AutoCAD and design sheets. Furthermore, I
even got the chance to manually design the raft foundation of a commercial building and
learned how to construct architectural designs of buildings using rivet. In my second internship,
which was in a local construction corporation, I tended to the preparation of BOQ’s and cost
estimation of constructing residential houses and commercial buildings. I also observed and
learned various stages involved in the construction of residential houses. Overall, I believe that
these internships have given me an insight into how to practically implement my coursework
out of the confined walls of my classroom.
About Undergraduate study, I feel is not a conclusion of what I call an excursion towards
greatness and skill. In this consistently changing universe of Engineering and Technology, where
each new day sees a spate of new ideas and application and each passing day makes them
outdated. I need to achieve the most elevated level of schooling and rise above new skylines in
the picked field.
I believe that the skills I gained during my bachelors have given me an insight on what pursuing
a master's degree in civil engineering would be like. Apart from this, working alongside my
father has taught me some consulting and designing skills that will help me in my master’s
coursework. Moreover, my current job has not only taught me the practical application of
dynamics of structural mechanics but has also taught me team-work, leadership and
perseverance. All of which will prove to be quite profitable for me both during my master’s
degree and expanding my father’s business in the future.
The prime reason for my interest in Canada as a destination for my professional studies and
master's degree is its bustling opportunities in the Civil Engineering sector and the high-Quality
Education provided by Canadian Universities. This coupled with the fact that being a part of the
Canadian society would be much easier to adapt to in comparison to that of any other country,
as I feel that the Canadian community is much more welcoming and tolerant of diverse
cultures. Furthermore, the cost of living in Canadian is also significantly less as compared to
other popular countries with high educational standards such as the USA and UK.
While searching for good universities in Canada, I came across Ryerson University which not
only has an exceptional Civil Engineering faculty but its Masters in Civil Engineering curriculum
is globally competent and practical than most. Apart from having internationally competent
laboratories and facilities, Ryerson also provides its students with an outstanding work
placement program after graduation in globally recognized companies. The University also
offers several physically challenging activities like cricket. I would especially love to be a part of
the cricket team given that I am offered a place at Ryerson. I believe that Ryerson University
would provide me with opportunities that will not only boost my confidence but will also assist
me in honing my practical skills in career. The challenges that I have faced during my university
life have prepared me to pursue a demanding subject such as Master's in Civil Engineering. I
believe that I would be a great fit at Ryerson University as not only would I be able to face the
academic challenges here due to my goal-oriented nature but also would be capable of leaving
an impact by participating in voluntary activities to give back to the community.
