The Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers in the Philippines states how the teacher ought to act in
and relate to the state, community, teaching profession, higher authorities, school officials and other personnel,
learners, parents and business/ It also states how a professional teacher ought to act and behave as a person.

1. From the PPSTs, the Southeast Asia Teachers Competency Standards and the TEDx videos that you
viewed, what competencies does a great teacher possess?
According to SEA-TCF great teacher must possess the essential competencies in the near future and that
is know and understanding what to teach, helping student learn, engaging the community and becoming a better
teacher every day. These 4 essential competencies are expected to perform by teachers and promote common
standard of performance among teachers across Southeast Asia.
Also according to Azul Terronez “What makes a good teacher great? A great teacher loves to teach and
loves to learn, a great teacher thinks like an adult b but acts as a kid, a great teacher understands that students
have a life outside school, a great teacher sings, a great teacher is chill, and a great teacher notices when
students struggle, a teacher listen to students. In his speech I understand what makes a good teacher great even
more. And lastly according to Adam Seanz about his talk about “The power of a teacher” bring him into a new
version of him and brought him to a new life. Teachers possess tremendous power that can make child’s life
meaningful.
No, it is not limited only to professional competencies but also to personal qualities because when it
comes to teaching, we all know teacher is expert in delivering the lesson but the character is necessary to
develop and apply too. It would be useless if a teacher has no pleasant character especially that everyone needs
to look up to. Teacher is the role model of the students the ways of the teacher has great impact to change
student’s heart, minds and lives.
3. For a teacher to be great, is it enough to possess the professional competencies to plan a lesson, execute
a lesson plan, manage a class, assess learning, compute and report grades? Explain your answer.
The greatness of a teacher is not measured by how well he/she is able to plan a lesson plan and execute
it, manage a class, assess learning, or compute and report grades. For me that was only their manifestations to
do as a teacher based in his/her profession. The greatness of a teacher is being measured by his/her outputs, and
that was students. We can say that teacher is great if the students attaining outstanding knowledge. If the
students are applying their learnings in everyday life, they’ve got a great teacher. If the students are remembers
teachers for a reasons, that teacher is great. Lastly, if a teacher touches the lives of the students, indeed that was
great one. Teacher simply puts meaning of the lives of the students not by intellect but in the heart.
4. For a teacher to be great, which is more important – personal qualities or professional competencies?
For me the personal qualities and professional competencies are equally important for a teacher. A
teacher is not as great without either one of them. Teacher must possess good personal qualities including good
communication and interpersonal skills so that teacher can understand the needs of the students. Also teacher
must possess professional competencies so that he/she can keep knowledge of the subject and can effectively
impart his knowledge to students. Therefore, both of it are very important to a teacher it was a complete
package and both of it are need to acquire.
We remember teacher because of their greatness though not all, but we can’t forget them for some
positive reasons. Some say there is at least one teacher who give impact of students life and that was true. From
the moment we enter schools, teachers become a good model to us that shape us into the people we are now
today. An influential teachers approach the task of shaping new generation, with compassion, benevolent and
tremendous effort for sharing knowledge and wisdom. We somehow remember them because they inspire us
and become the best version of ourselves. Actually we don’t remember every single lesson in a classroom,
rather we remember the impact of how we being transformed by them.
Reflect
Which personal traits do I possess? Not possess? Where do I need improvement in?
The personal trait that I possess was the ability to show empathy. To stay my future students engage and
improve their learning and treat them as an individual is by being empathetic and understanding. With this I
maybe know on what going on in their life outside. As a teacher it is important to be observant, attentive, be
positive and make connection towards the students to track what they need to be and ensure they are learning.
However, the ability that I didn’t have was being passionate. This ability is hard for me to have. That’s why I
always keep this in my mind that “everyone learns differently, whether fast or slow or normal”. It really hits me
different I don’t have this and make me realize being passionate teacher are easy for the students to listen to, or
more likely to produce students become passionate as they learn. I need to have this trait and I believe “People
will do for what they are passionate. Taking a step of that passion is what good teachers do”.
Write Action Research Prompts
1. OBSERVE In assisting my Resource Teacher, I observed that personal traits such as passionate teacher and a
good listener and professional competencies like know and understand what he was teaching and becoming a
better teacher every day to show the passion of being a great teacher but somehow failed to do since face to face
was prohibited were at least/not displayed and as a result, students were/class was sometimes missed its
schedule for some reasons and lessons are being skipped that lose its interest to catch up.
2. REFLECT The lack of these personal traits and professional competencies (mentioned in # 1) may caused
by the sudden shift of new normal education because of the pandemic since it started to change our ways of
teaching and learning. But then it is not the real problem now since we are now accept it fully and embrace its
difficulties. And the most challenging with this is its main problem is the mood of the teachers that will affect
the performance in dealing this new way of teaching because of the internet connection and technology
stability to do the online class.
3. PLAN I would like to address this problem (mentioned in # 2) by conducting an action research on how to
develop personal and professional competencies among teachers in online teaching as a basis to faculty
development program.
4. ACT
a.) The main objective in my action research is to develop personal and professional qualities among
educators in taking this online teaching and enhance their performance through a faculty development program.
As I’ve observe the class of Mr. Favio Jamero, while we was talking with the class he has full
knowledge and very expert of it. He used three languages and also he has very calm voice while talking to us.
Though he was just making an introduction of the subject and its quite informal but then again he was able to
manage it well. He immediately impart his knowledge to the class and able to us learn out of what was talking.
Though Mr. Jamero did not presenting something, but out of his talks we are able to learn from it by listening.
Sooner or later I just hope I can be able to do what Mr. Favio did. The way he speak and deliver the lesson was
just great.
