Impulse Handbook and Contract 2021-2022

The purpose of this handbook is to ensure that all Impulse members, parents and instructors
clearly understand the expectations for this program. Students AND parents must sign the
contract form on the last page of the handbook and return it on the second rehearsal in order to
participate in Impulse activities during the 2021-2022 season.

Attendance and Participation Expectations

● Please refer to the calendar located on our website for all dates, clarification and
updates at: http://impulsewinterguard.weebly.com
● ALL DATES ARE MANDATORY UNLESS OTHERWISE INDICATED
*****This calendar may be amended with notification either on the website, or with written
notification. Please check the website frequently or contact instructors with
questions.*****
● Students will be given two excused absences a season. These may ONLY be applied to
rehearsals. These absences may be used for things such as illnesses. If a student
wishes to use an excused absence, they should notify the instructors a minimum of two
hours before rehearsal.
● Being more than five minutes late to a rehearsal or performance call time will count as
an absence.
● Failure to alert instructors of the use of an excused absence at least two hours before a
rehearsal, missing rehearsals outside of the two excused absences, or being
consistently tardy to rehearsals and/or performances may result in the removal from a
performance block.
● Performances are mandatory. Instructors will provide an information sheet about the
performance, with a detailed schedule of events, at least one week prior to the
performance. Students must arrive in full hair, makeup, and costume at least 15 minutes
before the designated call time (unless otherwise instructed). Furthermore, students
must stay until the end of the awards ceremony for each event, and may only leave upon
being dismissed by the instructors.
● Before events and after dismissal from both rehearsals and performances, students and
their parents are responsible for providing their own means of transportation. If a parent
can not accommodate means for their student to arrive on time to a performance, they
should make arrangements for another mode of transportation.
● Exceptions to these rules MAY be made by the instructors upon communicating with a
student. Unforeseen conflicts, such as family emergencies, should be communicated
with instructors as soon as possible so that we can accommodate them.
● While in rehearsal, students should be active participants. This means they are fully
listening to instructions given, and executing directions that are given to them. Failure to
properly participate at a rehearsal may result in removal from a performance block.
Below are a list of some actions that do not demonstrate active participation:
○ Talking during instruction (even if it is about color guard)
○ Spinning during instruction
○ Disobeying the direction given by an instructor
○ Having an attitude that hinders the ability of the team to properly rehearse

Communication Expectations
● Students and parents must share their best means of communication with instructors at
the beginning of the season, per the student information form. Having up to date contact
details is vital so that instructors can effectively communicate important information
throughout the season.
● Students must regularly view updates as communicated by their instructors on both the
Impulse webpage, and the GroupMe group chat. It is expected that all students are
responsible for the information provided in those spaces.
● Instructors will minimally send out biweekly updates via the web page,
www.impulsewinterguard.weebly.com. They can also be contacted at their respective
emails.
● Important documents, updates, video assignments and other announcements will be
posted on the web page throughout the season.
● Students will be responsible for sharing information given at rehearsals with their parents
and/or guardians.

Individual Accountability and Preparedness Expectations

● Students will have a variety of video assignments due on the website throughout the
season to show the instructors that they are proficient in the material. The due dates for
these assignments will be provided at least one week in advance
● Failure to submit a video assignment on time may result in removal from a performance
block.
● Expectations about each video assignment will be detailed in the assignment box on the
website.
● Failure to meet the given expectations for a video assignment may result in removal from
a performance block.

Other Procedures/Expectations
● During the course of the year video-taping will occur during rehearsals to be posted for
students to review material. Photographs may also be taken to increase community
awareness (such as posting to websites). If you do not want pictures or videos of your
student shared on these platforms, please let us know by the first rehearsal.
● A triangle of respect will be shown between students, instructors and parents throughout
the season. As an emerging program, all parties understand the importance of being
respectful of each groups’ unique roles and contribution to the Impulse program. Any
disputes felt among the above parties should be dealt with in a respectful and
professional manner.
● Students will respect the space and equipment that they are using at all times.
● Students will treat themselves and other members with respect. Failure to do so WILL
result in removal from a performance block.
