Learning Activity Sheet Electronics and Robotics 10 I.: Schools Division of Zambales

This document provides a learning activity sheet on electronics and robotics. It introduces various electronic symbols used in circuit design. The sheet defines over 20 different electronic component symbols including those for batteries, switches, resistors, capacitors, diodes, transistors, and sensors. Students are given activities to practice identifying, labeling, and illustrating the symbols correctly, including designing a simple parallel circuit. Identifying electronic symbols accurately is important for STE students as it will help in circuit design and troubleshooting.

LEARNING ACTIVITY SHEET

ELECTRONICS AND ROBOTICS 10

I. Introduction
You already know how to identify the basic electrical or electronic symbols.
Aside from the given electronic symbols that we have discussed in our
previous lesson, there are other symbols used in electronics which are
variations of the basic electrical symbols. Since there is an exhaustive list of
symbols, we will be dealing only with the very essential variations that you
need to know and identify. Are you ready to dive in the vast number of other
symbols used in electronics?

II. Learning Competency

Describe and illustrate the different electronic symbols.

III. Objectives
At the end of the learning activity sheet, you are expected to:

1. identify the different electronic symbols;

2. describe the function of the different electronic components;
3. illustrate the different electronic symbols; and
4. design simple electrical circuit layout using the different electronic
symbols.
IV. Discussion
As stated in the first part of this Learning Activity sheet, there are tons of
electronic symbols used which are the standards set by the Institute of Electrical

1
and Electronics Engineer (IEEE std 315) and the British Standard (BS 3939). In
this lesson, you will be introduced to more variations of electronic symbols.
Variations in electrical symbols are important to specify the type of electrical
component to be used. Switches for example have different types. The switch
that we used to turn on or off our lamps at home is different from the switch
used to turn refrigerator lamp on or off. In this regard, a specific symbol must
be used to properly identify the type of electrical component to be used in the
actual circuit.

Electronic Use/Description Symbol

Component
Other Wire and connection symbols
A connection of wire at a T
junction included a “blob” to
Wires Joined
constitute attachment with one
another
A symbol which represents a
Wires not joined crossing wire not connected
with one another.
Power Supply Symbols
Supplies electrical energy. A
battery is a combination of two
Battery
or more cells. The larger line is
the positive terminal.
Converts light energy to
Solar Cell electrical energy. The larger line
is the positive terminal.
Supplies alternating current;
AC Supply electrical energy continuously
changes directions.
Supplies direct current;
DC Supply electrical energy is always
flowing in one direction.
Output Device Symbols
An output device that converts
electrical energy to light energy.
Lamp Indicator
This symbol is used to depict
indicators like warning light.
A device which converts
Heater electrical energy to heat.

2
A transducer which converts
Motor electrical energy to kinetic
energy.
An output device used to
Bell convert electrical energy to
sound.
An output device used to
Buzzer convert electrical energy to
sound.
A coil of wire which creates a
Inductor, Coil,
magnetic field when current
Solenoid
passes through it.
Swith Symbols
A push switch that allows
Push-to-make
current to flow only when
switch
pressed like in a doorbell.
A push switch which allows
Push-to-break current to flow if not pressed
switch and will break the flow if
pressed.
Single Pole, Single throw switch
SPST, on-off switch which allows current to flow if
closed or ON position.
Single pole, double throw
switch, also known as 2-way
SPDT, 2-way switch switch, directs the flow of
current to one or two routes
according to its position.
Double pole, double throw,
which is a dual on-off switch,
DPST Switch often used to switch main
electricity because it can isolate
both the live and neutral.
Double pole, double throw. This
DPDT Switch switch can be wired up as a
reversing switch for motor.
This is an electrically operated
Relay switch.

Other Variation of Resistor Symbols

A resistor that may control the
Rheostat Variable rate of flow of charge resulting
Resistor to control lamp brightness or
motor speed.
