Area

Prior Knowledge:
Before attempting this sheet, students need to be able to find the area of a shape by counting
squares. They should also be familiar with solving equations.

The area of a shape is the measure of the two-dimensional space it covers. The units for a
measurement of area are square units, for example cm2 or m2.

There are a few area formulae you need to learn by heart.

Area of a triangle =
Area of a rectangle = length × width 1

Area of a parallelogram = base × height 1

32cm2
Therefore, the value of the missing length is 12cm.

Double check your answer by substituting x

for the value you have calculated.
12 × 6 = 72, therefore the answer is correct.
