It’s good to hear that youre all doing great.

I want everyone to be on their best behavior. Student: Yes sir.

your desk clear, and sit properly.
Student: Good morning sir. Before we proceed to our new lesson, who
can tell me what our previous lesson is all
about?

Student: Let us pray……..Amen.

That’s correct, very good. Yesterday we
learned about addition by three digits
without regrouping.
Is there any more question regarding the
lesson yesterday?
So now we will move on to our new lesson.
Motivation
To give you an idea of what our lesson is
about, we will be having a little activity.
I have here different pictures of fruits. And I
also have here the hungry Mr. alligator.
Now I will put two sets of fruits in the
board, one in the left and another in the
right. Now we will help Mr. alligator choose
the most fruit to eat. We will put Mr.
alligator in the middle with its mouth
opening to the most fruit.
Is that clear?
Everybody look at the board and pay
attention.
On the first set of fruits, which will Mr. Students: (Answering)
alligator eat?
How about the next one?

Presentation
Now what have you observe on our activity?
Student: (answers about addition) What did we do to the fruits to determine
which has more than the other.?
We are comparing numbers.
Today we will be learning about greater than
and less than.
Before we proceed without discussion,
Student: none, sir please read our objectives for today.
Discussion
Everybody look at the board.
Greater than and less than are used in
comparing numbers.
Greater than shows that a number has a
bigger value while less than shows that a
number has a smaller value.
Let’s look at the symbol that is used in
comparing numbers.
> is used for greater than, it looks like an
alligator mouth opening to the left.
We used this if the number in the left side is
bigger.
< is used for less than, it looks like an
alligator mouth opening to the right.
We used this if the number in the right side
is bigger.

Let’s look at the example using pictures

If we compare these set of flower, which
has bigger value?
What symbol should we write in the middle?
Next example for the hearts.
Students: (answering)
If we compare them, which has a bigger
value?
What symbol should we write in the middle?

Comparing numbers is very important

Students: (reading) because we always use it.
When you go to the canteen to buy snacks,
you compare the prices of the foods you
buy. Which food is cheap or expensive.
Do you understand class?
Analysis
To deepen your understanding, I have here
some more examples for you. What I want
you to do is compare the numbers then I
want you to write the correct symbol
whether it is greater than or less than.
I will pick one of you to answer each
problem.

Do you have any question class?

Let’s start.
( number 1)
Please raise your hand if you want to
volunteer.
Students: (answering)

Student at the back. Please come here at the

front and answer.
Very good. That’s correct.
Students: (answering) (number 2)
Next question, Please raise your hand if you
want to answer.
Very good.
Students: (answering)
Does everybody understand the lesson?
Generalization
I want you to remember that in comparing
numbers, the first thing to do is determine
which number has bigger value. The
opening of the symbol, which looks like an
alligator mouth will always goes into the
Students: yes, sir. direction of the bigger number.
Is that clear?
Application
Now we will have an activity to apply what
you have learned about our lesson. We will
Students: no, sir
have a group activity. I will divide the class
into five groups by row. First row will be
group 1, second row will be group 2, row 3
will be group 3.
In a piece of paper I will give you, I want
you to draw 2 sets of objects and use the
greater than and less than symbol in
comparing.
Students: (answering) I want you to draw 2 examples using greater
than, and another 2 examples using less
than.
You can draw any objects that you like to
draw. You can also use coloring materials to
make your work better.

Students: (answering) Any questions regarding our activity?

Students: Yes, sir. Please take out all the materials you need.
Talk with your members and decide on what
to draw.
I will give you 15 minutes to work on that.
When youre finish please pass your work
and don’t forget to write your names at the
back..
Is everybody done with the activity?
On a count of three, please pass your work.

Student: Yes, sir.

Evaluation
Now that were done with the activity, will
have a short quiz before we end our class.
We will have a five item quiz to check if
you really understand the lesson. Please
prepare a sheet of paper and your pencil.
Is everyone ready?
Please write your name at the top of your
paper. Seat properly and look at the board.

Copy and answer. Compare the following
