XtraMath This is not necessarily
an application that you can download from the App Store, however you can create your own app for this valuable tool. On an iPad, you would press the box with an arrow on the control bar and click “add to Home Screen”. This app is an important one for students learning their basic facts that you need to be able to recall quickly. It works on addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. This also tracks the students progress and advances them. You as a teacher can track their progress, while also seeing if they skip certain factors continually.
Vocabulary Spelling City This is a free app where you
(Soon to be Vocabulary A-Z) may pay for premium access, not at all necessary. Students work on a premade spelling list or you may create your own class account for spelling lists within your classroom. Without the premium account you cannot track your students progress, but they can practice their words while playing games. I always had student bring me their spelling test score up on their iPads or have them show me on the computer.
Kahn Academy Kahn Academy is made for
third grade to 12th grade whereas there’s another app called Kahn Academy kids made for second grade and under. I personally use Kahn Academy kids with my three- year-old and there is an art opportunity for her to study math concepts she otherwise would not reach until second grade. Using us within the classrooms for the older grades would help broaden their math and reading concepts where they may not get to it during the typical school day. It could definitely be used as an enrichment course.
Epic - Kids’ Books for epic books is an app that
Reading allows teachers to assign stories to students or students to choose stories they would like to listen to. There are options to read books without audio, read books with audio and just listen to stories without a book in front. It is nice to broaden a teachers library with this app where books are expensive and get worn out this app allows For students to get their hands on books say otherwise may not have ever seen. MobyMax MobyMax is a neat app because it involves science and social studies on top of math and reading. Within our schools currently social studies and science can sometimes be on the back burner. This app allows students to enrich themselves within those subjects and learn areas that may never be touched on in class. The teacher also has the opportunity to observe how their students are doing throughout this entire app.
