Final Requirements (Project Proposal)

This document provides guidance for a final GIS project proposal. It includes questions to consider when selecting a project topic related to a current problem and how GIS could help address it. Example topics given include mapping COVID-19 cases. The format provided requires a title, significance of the project, objectives, and scope/limitations. A sample project is given on mapping out-of-school youth using GIS to understand challenges and develop education programs. The proposal focuses on surveying out-of-school youth about barriers to education and potential solutions.

GIS-BASED PROJECT PROPOSAL (Guide Questions)

Brain Storming

1. “How would I know what GIS project to pursue?”

2. The first step is always difficult
3. Are you thinking of some topic, problem, or plan?
4. What do you have in mind?
5. What are the most challenging problems in your area?

Scope and Limitation

influences that the researcher cannot control. These are the problems,
circumstances, or influences that may arise and which cannot be controlled by the
researcher that place restrictions on your methodology and conclusions. Anything
that might influence the results is part of the limitation. While on the other hand,
Scope of the Study - refers to how far the research area has explored and
parameters in with the study will be operating in.

Project Title: Out-Of-School Youth Mapping using GIS

Proponent: Jemaima Bohol and Patricia Mae Tarac
Significance of the Project:
The importance of this project is that every one of us becomes knowledgeable about
the youth who is not lucky to attend a formal school because of many problems. Using the
GIS may help map the out-of-school youth and make them realize the importance of having
good education and it also for the government to make a solution in order for the youth to
have a better education. This project gives youth to an idea to go back to school which is
helpful for the society to increase the education standard as well as to make appropriate
choices accordingly.
Objective of the Project:
This project is conducted to look at the current situations of the out-of-school youth
and to know the increasing number of the out-of-school youth using the GIS-based
Mapping. The insights gained from this project will then help to develop a lifelong education
model for the out-of-school youth, because nowadays, many uneducated people are at
serious problem for the future of the country. Having the GIS-based mapping would be a
great help to track youths and give them hope to change life and become successful for the
future.
Scope and Limitation:
This project focuses on the Out-Of-School Youth using the GIS-based Mapping. This
involves a survey for those who are out of school youth. The selection of the respondents is
only limited since we’re still in the situation of a limited face-to-face.
This is designed to have a thorough knowledge of problems of youths on why they
cannot attend school. The respondent’s profile was gathered through a survey
questionnaire and structured interview. And how to them solve their problems by being
aware of the programs of the Department of Education. An action plan was also made to
help lessen the number of out-of-school youth.
