On Government
A disciple of Confucius asked the master, “What are the basic
ingredients of a good government?”
He answered, “First, sufficient food; next, sufficient weapons; and
last, the confidence of the people.”
“But,” continued the disciple, “suppose you had to dispense with one
of these three things, which would you forego?”
“Weapons,” said the master.
2
Then the disciple persisted, “Suppose then that you were forced to
choose between one of the two left, which would you forego?”
Finally, Confucius answered, “Food, from of old, death has been the
lot of all men, but a people that no longer trusts its rulers is lost, indeed.”

arrange his thoughts logically and objectively to let his readers spontaneously follow
the flow of the ideas presented.

Solution
Graphic Organizers come in various forms, each best suited for the
organization of a specific kind of information. The following examples are simply a
selection of the graphical organizers' various styles and uses.
7
1. Fishbone is also called cause and effect diagram and it is used to categorize
the potential causes of a problem.
8
4. Semantic Web are maps or web of words to visually display meaning-based
connections between a word or phrase and a set of related words and
concepts.
9
It is a "blueprint" or "plan" for your paper. It gives your
work a visual structure and are used to illustrate
relationships and logical order in your material
categorizing the main idea and the supporting details.
Going back to your Activity 1 on the symptoms and ways to prevent COVID
19, try to put the information in an outline form.

To extract information from a reading selection, you need to identify the main
idea and its supporting details.
Roman numerals I, II, and so on for every main idea in each paragraph base
on the essay you are reading.
Next, letters that appear under each Roman numeral show the details to
support the main idea of the paragraph. If the some of the details require multiple
explanations, these are noted with numbers under the letters.
What’s More

Read the following passages and organize the information using a concept
map. Use a separate sheet for the concept map.
Processing Information
Congratulations for a job well done! Continue to do well in the succeeding activities.
Direction: Read and understand the text below. Organize the information by using
a timeline.
The President of the Philippines was born on March 28, 1945, in Maasin.
Duterte's family lived in Maasin, and in his father's hometown in Danao, until he
was four years old. The Dutertes initially moved to Mindanao in 1948 but still
went back and forth to Visayas until 1949. They finally settled in the Davao
Region in 1950.
Direction: Using a semantic web, give a word that you can associate to the topic
below. One word is given for you as example.

Direction: Read the short text below about butterflies and bees. Compare and
contrast them using the venn diagram.
Butterflies and bees have many things in common. They are both
insects that live all over the world. Another similarity is that they both have 4
wings. Their wings are very different though. Butterflies have brightly colored
wings and a bee's wings are transparent. Bees live in large groups called
colonies. Butterflies do not. They often travel by themselves. Butterflies and
bees are also similar because they both feed off of nectar and pollen from
flowers.

Direction: From the essay you prepared in Activity 9, transform it using the chosen
graphic organizer. You will be rated with the same rubric in the previous activities.
Summary
17
The type of graphic organizers discussed in this module are fishbone,
concept map, semantic web, timeline and Venn diagram.
An outline also guides in organizing information. It is a "blueprint" or
plan.
A. Read the paragraph below and use the information in the text to complete the
diagram.
Thinking Globally
Thinking globally means being aware of the earth's big problems.
It is like looking at a whole forest and seeing beyond the beauty of the trees.
It means thinking about the forest's history- its wildlife, the resources it
provides, and the people it supports. When you think globally, you think
about the forest's effect on the climate around it, about over-logging, acid
rain, and soil erosion. You think about worldwide action to preserve forests
and provide jobs for people who depend on them for a living.
