Pop Culture
Pop Culture
- Popular culture is the set of practices, beliefs, objects that embody the broad
shared meanings of a social system. It also includes entertainment, leisure, media
object, etc. Popular culture is distinguished from high culture and various
institutional cultures by its association with either mass or folk culture. The
behaviors and sentiments produced by encounter with these dominant items are
also included in popular culture. This collection of ideas penetrates the everyday
lives of people in a given country, heavily influenced by mass media in modern
times. As a result, popular culture has the ability to influence a person's views on
a variety of themes
2. What are its elements?
- Based on what I have searched pop culture has its different elements like; art,
music, fashion, social media, Netflix, television, radio, podcast, and more.
3. What's the difference between folk culture and high culture?
- The term "high culture" refers to art genres such as painting, opera, classical
music, and literature. These types of culture, in contrary to more popular forms of
culture, are regarded worthwhile and deserving of praise based on broadly
accepted views. Its most common definition is the set of cultural products,
primarily in the arts, that a civilization holds in the greatest regard. It is the culture
of an elite, such as the nobility or intelligentsia, in more accessible terms. While
Folk music typically originates from an anonymous hearth. As people migrate,
folk music travels with them as part of the diffusion of folk culture. Folk songs
include a story providing information that people normally do on a daily basis
such as farming, life-cycle events, birth, death, and marriage, and also strange
happenings like storms and earthquakes.
4. As you browse available resources related to Philippine Pop Culture, what
significant ideas have you drawn as we trace its history, origin of culture, and its
development?
- Pop culture started in the 19th century when the phrase “popular culture” was
introduced. When the World War ll ended, following massive cultural and social
developments brought about by mass media breakthroughs, popular culture grew
to be to related to that of mass culture, media culture, consumer culture, and
culture for mass consumption. During 1980’s, the term “pop culture” became
known. Traditionally they used popular to denote things like top music playlists,
“pop” as in art, and “best” or “top” selling books. That was the history and origin
of pop culture, I have no idea what was the history of pop culture so as I search I
have found these interesting history. As far as I can see there has been a big
improvement of pop culture ever since. Back then photographs and videos are
black and white, there was no much off a color since it was still black and white
back then. Back then there are still no social media which is now very trendy and
everyone uses it. While in fashion as we can see everyone wear what they see as a
trend and sometimes they use it to know the class of a people based on brands.
There are lots of improvements ever since and it has made an great influence to
lots of people.
5. What is your perspective of Philippine Pop Culture at present?
- My perspective about the pop culture right now is that it is still continuing to
grow each and every day. Though lots of improvements has happened there are
still improvements that are not great for everyone because as we know all people
has access to every social media and there are things online that may leave a bad
impact on someone.
