1. Jaina is a big fan of a popular comic book series, and is so inspired that she
decides to write her own story. She starts her own web comic using the same
characters from her favorite comic, but with her original art and story writing. To
design the rest of her website, Jaina scans a few pictures from her copies of the
popular comic and recolors them slightly. Nowhere on the website does Jaina
mention the original comic book authors. Jaina believes that she is not plagiarizing

He reads a report from a different news organization to use as a reference. His
deadline for the story is coming up soon, so Reynold heavily paraphrases parts from
the other organization's report to help him write. While Reynold's story also includes
some of the same quotes as the other report, he forgets to attribute the sources at
the end. Reynold says that since no one can copyright the facts of world news, he is
not plagiarizing.

Synthesize (25 points)

Create an informational slide using ethical Internet research and citation practices.

Choose a topic on anything you think would be interesting to research – for example,
a famous or historical person, a place, an animal, or a device or invention. You will
use the Internet to complete your research. With this research, you will create an
informational presentation slide that describes your topic. Your informational slide
should contain the following elements:

 An introductory image - it can be a direct picture of the person/place/thing, or a

photo that relates to it in some way. This photo must be free to use, meaning you
will have to check the copyright details for any photo you select. (10 points)

 A 200- to 300-word explanation of the topic. Use Internet sources to research the
topic, and then write an explanation in your own words based on what you have
learned. (10 points)

 Properly cited Internet sources for both the image and written section. (5 points)
