A Fault-Y Setup

1) The document discusses faults and how they are represented using sand and paper. Faults are fractures between blocks of rock that allow the blocks to move relative to each other. 2) It provides examples of major fault lines in the Philippines, including the North of Mindanao Fault, Central Philippine Fault, and Marikina/Valley Fault. 3) Analyzing faults can provide insight into how locations may respond to earthquakes since they occur along faults, especially along plate boundaries where there are higher concentrations of faults.

Materials: Two sheets of paper, fine sand, ruler,

1. A crack line or break is formed in the sand /

2. The lines are shifted or displaced /
3. It represents a road /
4. A fault is a fracture or zone of fractures between two blocks of rock. Faults allow the blocks to
move relative to each other. /
5. If analyzed thoroughly, can provide essential insight into how a specific location might respond
to an earthquake. /
6. North of Mindanao Fault, Central Philippine Fault and the Marikina/Valley Fault /

/
7. North of Mindanao - Tagoloan River Fault, Cabanglasan Fault in Balingasag town, the fault line in
Alubijid town, and Central Mindanao Fault /
Central Philippine Fault - Guinayangan, Masbate, and Central Leyte /

Mariano Alvarez, Carmona, Silang, San Pedro, Biñan, Santa Rosa, Cabuyao, Calamba East:

Conclusion:

I learned that plate boundaries have the highest concentrations of faults. Earthquakes occur along
faults. Therefore, earthquakes occur along plate boundaries.
