Our research topic was completely based on the responses we got from the people around
IoBM. It was an anonymous survey and was based on twenty-two questions. The results that
we got are shown and explained below.
The responses we got from our survey were 62 in the count. Among which 41 (66.1%) were
females and 21 (33.9%) were male. The responses we got were from all types of age groups
consisting: 26 (41.9%) respondents from ages between 15 to 20, 31 (50%) were from ages
between 20 to 25, and a small portion was from ages between 20 to 25 consisting 5 (8.1%)
respondents.
After getting and analyzing the primary data, we asked them that if they have been bullied
ever and we got the majority responses in “YES” (53,85.5%). Out of those, the majority got
bullied before the age of maturity having 30.6% below 12 years and 50% between the ages of
12 to 16, 19.4% between the ages of 16 to 20, and having zero response above the age of 20.
We specifically did the project on the student to get insight into bullying in the early ages.
We asked them that where did the most bullying take place in their academic career and the
responses we got were a mix consisting; 22.6% said that they were bullied in primary
schooling, majority responses consisting 53.2% said that they got bullied in middle school,
16.1% in senior school and a very small number of responses said that they got bullied in
colleges and university.
During an academic career, a person meets many people. When the respondents were asked
from whom they have faced bullying the most, the majority said that they have been bullied
by either their friends or their classmates, few respondents also said they were bullied by their
seniors and strangers too. Bullying does come with age since only one respondent said that
he/she has been bullied by a junior.
We were intrigued to ask that does bullying happens being gender-specific like does men
only get bullied by a man or has he ever been bullied by a woman and vice versa. We got
zero response from men being bullied by a woman but we got several responses of women
getting bullied by a man too. Which shows that men are somehow more inclined toward
bullying regardless of gender.
There are many types of bullying and since we are doing a closed-ended survey we didn’t ask
our respondents how they were bullied but we did ask them about the most famous type of
bullying which is bullying based on appearance. When we served, 67.7% of respondents said
that they have been bullied on their appearance and 32.3% answered “No”. we also asked
them that do they agree that physically attractive people have higher chances to get away
from bullying and 32.3% and 33.9% strongly agreed and agreed respectively. A small
percentage of around 10.3% said that they disagree. While 22.6% chose to remain neutral.
It was the main part of our research that we proposed the hypothesis that bullying does affect
a person mentally. When we asked our respondents about the effects of bullying on their
mental majority said that they were negatively affected. The majority said that their self-
esteem has deteriorated. But we did find out that some people are mentally resilient that they
didn’t let the bullying get the worst out of them. Moreover, some respondents even said that
they get motivated and get the will to fight back. Over asking the respondents they responded
that: 61.3% said that they got badly affected by the bullying, 12.9% said that they didn’t get
affected by bullying, and 25.8% said that it made them stronger to fight back.
Bullying does leave unremovable marks and effects on a person’s confidence and personality.
Those who got badly affected by the bullying and their self-esteem got perished, they have
faced multiple problems in their future life.
After facing bullying many felt a lack of confidence and lost their will to study or work. Over
asking the respondents, 51.6% said that they felt inferiority complex, 22.6% felt depression
or anxiety, 6.5% faced mental breakdown, and 19.4% felt faced all of the given options.
Bullying also affects your mental stability and causes a person to be less confident in later
stages of life. When we asked the respondents about their experience of bullying and its
effects, 88.7% of respondents said that bullying caused them to be less confident in the later
stage of life.
Bullying also affects the academic career of many students. It makes them less confident in
life and that has its effects on the learning of students and how confident they are while
solving a difficult problem or a comprehensive exam. When we asked our respondents,
62.5% responded that their studies did get affected by the bullying they faced and 12.9%
respondents said that they didn’t get affected by the bullying, while 22.6% remained neutral.
Bullying also makes a person’s behavior aggressive and defensive. When we asked our
respondents about what they did to the bully they proposed some punishments like 77.4%
said that a bully should be expelled/fired, 12.9% said that they should be bullied back, and
9.7% said that they should be ignored.
Many respondents said that they also have been in a fight with a bully or have stopped a
person from bullying anyone. 53.2% of the respondents have been in a fight with a bully and
46.8% said that they haven’t been in a fight with a bully. Moreover, 66.1% of respondents
have saved a person getting bullied, 11.3% have reported to the designated authorities, 22.6%
just felt bad for the person getting bullied, but no one has walked past silently doing nothing.
