1. Why is staffing an important activity?


Staffing is an activity that ensure that right people are the right job and the productivity is
achieved at an optimum level by recruiting and on-boarding relevant people who are
skilled as well as willing to work and excel in the role assigned to them.

2. What are the possible sources of applicants for vacant positions in the firm?
The possible sources of applicants for vacant positions in the firm are the following:
a) The organization’s current employees
b) Newspaper advertising
c) Schools
d) Referrals from employees
e) Recruitment firms
f) Competitors

3. What is the implication of the cost of the “wrong decision” in the selection process?
Cost of the wrong decision implies that if the management picks the wrong person and
the subsequent effect to the organization is negligible, then the selection process is made
simple.

4. How may one determine the qualifications of a job candidate?


The following are ways in determining the qualifications of a job candidate:
1. Application blanks
2. References
3. Interviews
4. Testing

5. In induction, what activities are undertaken?


In induction, the new employee is provided with the necessary information about the
company. His duties, responsibilities and benefits are relayed to him. Personnel and
health forms are filled up, and passes are issued. The company history, its products and
services, and the organization structure are explained to the new employee.

1. Prepare a forecast of the human resource needs of an engineering firm or company.
