Experiment On Motions in One-Dimension
Experiment On Motions in One-Dimension
Purpose:
Qualify and quantify the concept of motion in one dimension
Instructions:
1. Qualify and quantify human motion performance in one-dimension
Experiment
I. Qualitative Measure.
Materials:
1. 2 pieces of Pen
2. Book / Notebook
Procedure:
A. Position 1
1. Place your arm on air in front of you at shoulders’ length.
2. Shake your hands for 30 seconds.
3. Observe and describe the motion.
4. Record your observation.
B. Position 2.
1. Place your arm on air in front of you at shoulders’ length.
2. Shake your hands for 30 seconds this time with 1 piece of pen on each hand.
3. Observe and describe the motion. Contrast position 1 and position 2.
4. Record your observation.
C. Position 3.
1. Place your arm on air in front of you at shoulders’ length.
2. Shake your hands for 30 seconds this time with 1 piece of book / notebook on one hand while
the other hand shakes without a book.
3. Observe and describe the motion. Compare position 1, position 2 and position 3.
4. Record your observation
Materials:
1. Measuring Tool (Tape Measure / Meter stick, etc.)
2. Two (2) pieces 1 liter PET water bottles
3. One (1) kilo of rice inside a canister/container
4. Timer (watch / in cellphone may also be used)
5. Bathroom weighing scale (in case none, record your current/ recent body weight)
Procedure:
1. In a safe and level surface, and at an open space, measure the space adequate to perform a
quick run.
2. Prepare a timer (in watch or cellphone) and ask a family member / relative / guardian to record
your time in each trial.
3. Prepare the following variables of each trial: ( 2 piece 1L PET bottle, 1kl of rice in a
container)
4. Do, record, convert and compute for the following trial parameters as stated in the table below.

_______ 3m
________ 2.54m/s
_____________
carrying any load
Trial 2:

Synthesis Questions:
1. Among the qualitative measures, what was the fastest to perform? Determine the dependent
variables of the speed performance.
2. Among the quantitative measure trials, which among the three (3) trials that has the slowest
computed speed? Determine the dependent variables of the speed performance.
3. In the practice of Physical Therapy, what are the internal / external factors affect human
motion performance? Explain how each of these influence human motion performance.
1. Among the qualitative measures, the fastest procedure was bare hands. The dependent variables that
determined the speed performance were the objects grasped and its weight.
2. Among the three quantitative measure trials, the trial that I performed slowest was the one that involved
one kilo of rice. The dependent variables for this activity were the weight of the person and the time it took
to complete the trials.
3. In the field of physical therapy, some external and internal factors that can affect motion performance are
the patient's/client's strength or power to perform exercises, his ability or health in general, and also the
factors in his environment that surrounds him such as wind strength, the floor texture, gravity, etc. These can
influence motion performace in terms of how they can have a great effect to the result of exercises depending
on the circumstances.
