1.0 INTRODUCTION
This reflection based in my learning skills and experience while conducting this major
project of pec200 communication skills. During this subject I have assigned to do
weekly activities portfolio, minor project and major projects etc.
2.0 REFLECTIONS
1. What were three main things I learned from this subject?
The three main things I learn from the communication skills is Non-Verbal
communication that is What is left unsaid is more important that what is said Mimic
nonverbal communications you find effective. I find certain facial expressions or body
language beneficial to a certain setting, use it as a guide when improving my own in
make YouTube video nonverbal communications. For example, if you see that when
someone nods their head it communicates approval and positive feedback efficiently,
use it in your next meeting when you have the same feelings. Second thing is Verbal
communication is the use of language to transfer information through speaking or sign
language. It is one of the most common types, often used during presentations, video
conferences and phone calls, meetings and one-on-one conversations. Verbal
communication is important because it is efficient. It can be helpful to support verbal
communication with both nonverbal and written communication. Use a strong,
confident speaking voice. Especially when presenting information to a few or a group
of people, I’m sure to use a strong voice so that everyone can easily hear me. Be
confident when speaking so that my ideas are clear and easy for others to understand.
Use active listening. The other side of using verbal communication is intently listening
to and hearing others. Active listening skills are key when conducting a meeting,
presentation or even when participating in a one-on-one conversation. Doing so will
help me grow as a communicator. My emotions feel physically. Throughout the day, as
I experience a range of emotions (anything from energized, bored, happy or frustrated),
try to identify where I feel that emotion within your body. For example, if I am feeling
anxious, I might notice that my stomach feels tight. Developing self-awareness around
how my emotions affect my body can give me greater mastery over my external
presentation. Last thing Written communication is the act of writing, typing or
printing symbols like letters and numbers to convey information. It is helpful because
it provides a record of information for reference. Writing is commonly used to share
information through books, pamphlets, blogs, letters, memos and more. Emails and
chats are a common form of written communication in the workplace. Strive for
simplicity. Written communications should be as simple and clear as possible. While it
might be helpful to include lots of detail in instructional communications, for example,
I should look for areas where you can write as clearly as possible for audience to
understand. keep a file of writing you find effective or enjoyable. If me receive a
certain pamphlet, email or memo that I find particularly helpful or interesting, save it
for reference when writing my own communications. Incorporating methods or styles
like can help me to improve over time. Furthermore, what I learned from my first
activity is doing a task with my family during this mco. Because of this I learned
speaking in English with confident to my family I do a makeup tutorial with my sister I
really enjoyed this was a first time I am doing video with my sibling It makes me feel
more comfortable with each other and encourages even more healthy and effective
communication (attachment 4.1). my second activity doing portfolio with friends
through platform zoom it was amazing I learned a lot from friends’ activity for
example, “listen and draw by one of my group member through this activity learned
listening skills and focus carefully when doing something or talking .the exercise
continues, it will get progressively harder; one misstep could mean that every
following instruction is misinterpreted or misapplied. I need to listen carefully to
ensure their drawing comes out accurately and from another task I learned more while
doing portfolio activity. While for major project ‘5 minutes know -how’ (attachment
4.2) it is a short life hacks video for the topic simple cooking video trough platform
YouTube. Which is on how to make easiest and simple egg fried rice. I choose to this
topic because I want to share that it does not request much time.in the video I have the
list of ingredients and demonstrate step by step on how to make the egg fries rice.
2. What was new or surprising to me?
New for me is upload video in YouTube( plat form) and also communicate in
English with my family and collegemates for the task given by my lecturer this one
my first experiences, but it should not indicate the negative aspects of the learning
experience on the internet. This might have implications for the campus-
community partnership, as well as possible future projects at that site. Where I
have the chance to discuss all the aspects of the project., which includes a written
report. I must do a video in zoom (PLATFORM) with an in-depth discussion on
the outcomes of the project with the lecturer. The challenge remains to upload the
YouTube videos on my account. It may remain a challenge for me upload
YouTube videos on Uploading the YouTube videos on the module’s channel will
provide analytical data of the module’s YouTube videos. having good
communication skills involves being aware of both sender and receiver. Talking,
body language, tone of voice and I often change the way that me speak depending
on the circumstances; for example, watch what I say so as not to offend or upset
others. But the verbal or spoken aspects of communication form only a part of
what is going on. Whenever someone communicates with another person, they are
engaged in a constant process of interpretation to try and make sense of what is
going on. Most of I have some awareness of the impact of body language. I may
believe, for example, that politicians can modify their body language so that they
do not give away too many clues about themselves. I probably try to make sure that
my own body language suits the situation are in. taking in English face to face
surprising me.
4. Based on this session what are the areas which I need to develop further?
The area I need to develop is verbal communication that is speak with confidence
Speaking in a confident manner will help me build trust and command the respect
of my family, friends and others. ability to speak confidently, including my
command of the subject matter, word choice, the tone of my voice, body language,
and ability to make direct eye contact with others. I have to learn how to listen
(really listen, not just stay quiet)
Listening is one of, if not the, most important aspects of communication. Because
communication is the process of interacting and transmitting messages with others,
so I can only be so good at it if all I’m ever work on is being a good talker. I think
that I have poor use of eye contact with audience during presentation. Eye contact
is key to building rapport. During my presentation, I guess that I didn’t get an eye
contact with my audience, in future, I would like to develop my interacting skill
with my audience. I think this is the part where I should need a further
development.
I understand the objectives of PEC200 activities, learnt and explore more new
things. It helps me to gain more knowledge as well. But I’m still have some issues
not unsure is differences in perception and viewpoint. Physical disabilities such as
hearing problems or speech difficulties. Physical barriers to non-verbal
communication. Not being able to see the non-verbal cues, gestures, posture and
general body language can make communication less effective. Phone calls, text
messages and other communication methods that rely on technology are often less
effective than face-to-face communication. Language differences and the difficulty
in understanding unfamiliar accents. Expectations and prejudices which may lead
to false assumptions or stereotyping. furthermore, Nonviolent communication
(NVC), sometimes referred to as compassionate communication, is an approach to
communicating designed to help people connect more compassionately with
themselves and others. Nonviolent communication can transform interactions, as it
enables people to become more aware of their feelings, needs, and desires, as well
as those of others, in each situation.
6. What is the one thing which I most liked about this subject?
The one thing which I really liked about this subject is that I really loved and
enjoyed spending time with my friends and family to do activities and task. From
every activities or task that I participated will let me get to know more about my
friends and my own I do everything with confidence even to know more about this
subject and extend my knowledge more about other things that I do not really
know about. One thing which I most liked about this subject is my makeup tutorial
with my sister presentation. That is totally a new experience for me. I had a chance
to develop my acting skill and experience of acting with my sister in a play.
Furthermore, I realized the importance of our communication skills when making
videos in platform like YouTube, tiktok and more. I managed to create a short and
simple tutorial to complete my task with my sister. It made me to think the all the
important criteria about our communication with one another. This presentation
never failed to teach me how communication impacts our daily lifestyle and the
benefits of proper communication to let others know our point of view.
7. What is the one thing that I most disliked about this subject?
There is nothing that I dislike from this subject. it is because able to learn
something new, which is helpful for our daily lives and gain lot information’s
through the topic’s that we have been discussed and studies.
8. What are some of the miscellaneous interesting facts that I learned in this session?
9. What are the three issues that interested me a lot, and that I would like to ask my
lecturer for more detailed explanation?
First and foremost, I would like to know more detailed information about the
weekly activity’s presentation Secondly, the ‘5 minutes how’ made me excited due
to its uniqueness compare to other issues. Thirdly, the Portfolio interested me a lot
as well.
This was my first semester I just attended only 3 months of classes for this
semester due to Covid-19 issues. So, in these three months, we only proceed the
activities at class. Moreover, during this mco period I only continued online classes
cause this issue I cannot able to study here some technical problem cannot pay
attention very well. did not have any kind of outdoor activities.
3.0 CONCLUSION
As a conclusion, pec 200 communication skill subject has given me a better
understanding through practically done the activities and projects of this subject. my
strengths and weaknesses in relation to how I communicate, and relate with my
friends, family members, and colleagues. As an individual, I have come to appreciate
the importance of developing and coming up with strong and good communication
skills. This is because they would play an important role in determining whether I
would sustain, create or develop a relationship. One of my major strengths lies in my
ability to maintain a face to face conversation, through eye contacts. This is an
important strength, mainly because I have the capability of gazing into the eyes of an
individual that I communicate with, and hence instilling a sense of confidence, and
creating some trusts. For efficient communication to occur, the parties to the
communication must show some elements of confidence, and trust, amongst one
another. Eye contact is one of the major methods that can be used to create a sense of
confidence, amongst the parties to the communication.
A special and big thanks to Miss Jannah for guiding us very well in this Semester for
PEC subject. We really had a fun time with miss, and we enjoyed it. Miss Jannah
really took care of us and put efforts to make us understand. Although we’re in MCO,
she conducted online classes to continue the discussion.
