Subculture "Why Join The Navy If You Can Be A Pirate?"

The document discusses Chinese youth subcultures and their emergence in recent times due to technological developments. It proposes creating an experimental arts space to support these subcultures and allow them to explore and express their art, as currently they have to organize underground due to lack of resources and financial support. The space aims to preserve their identities while enabling communication with the wider world.

SUBCULTURE

“Why join the navy if you can be a pirate?”

In China, the emergence of youth subcultures
and trends is particularly recent as compared
to the rest of the world. This is due to the late
economic and technological developments
that saw a rapid growth of these communities.
Today, these communities are on the cutting
edge of fashion, music and art, and are usually
the trend setters within this new digital era .
The Chinese youth sub cultures are forging
connection and creating virtual social
relationships, and tend to organize events
underground due to lack of resources.

The remits of youth subcultures and trends are

often blurry and overlapping. This is also down
to the need of young people to identify with
others as well as to differentiate themselves
from the masses. As of recent, this community
have gotten some attention due to their
uniqueness and somewhat influence in the
mainstream spaces. These subcultures are the
Punks, Streetwear, Goths, Techno.

I would like to introduce experimental arts

space for the Chinese youth subcultures to
explore and express their art.
MAIN ARGUMENT

Chinese youth subcultures have been at the forefront of various artistic trends but however, they have
to resort underground due to a lack a financial support. As of late they have been getting recognition

be a demonstration of appreciation.
