The original Benshaw contactors and parts used in Pueblo chillers have been discontinued and replaced by the Metasol line, which are not directly compatible. Replacing a Benshaw contactor requires also replacing the interlock and adding a shorting bar between the new contactors. An example replacement part list is provided.

Benshaw / Metasol Replacement Contactor Parts

Selection for Pueblo Series-R Chillers

Issue:

Benshaw Replacement Contactor Parts Selection

Resolution:

The Benshaw line of contactors, auxiliary switches, and interlocks has been discontinued and
replaced by the Metasol line. Please take note to the following:

1. The Metasol line of contactors, are not drop in replacements for the Benshaw Contactors.
There are some mounting modifications may be required.

2. Replacement parts are not backwards/forwards compatible between the two lines of
contactors. If an auxiliary switch, interlock, or replacement contacts for the contactor is
needed for a Benshaw contactor, replacement of the contactor will be required as well as
an interlock and a new shorting bar. The K2 and K3 contactors will interlock, as will the K6
and K7 and must be the same manufacturer. You cannot interlock a Benshaw with a
Metasol contactor.

Below is an example.

The original contactors and interlock for 1K2 and 1K3 were a CTR02096. It has been replaced by
CTR02837.

Parts are not backwards compatible. The following parts will be required

CTR02738 Interlock Switch

PLT05210 Shorting Bar for the 1K3

The side mounted auxiliary switch as well as the coil will come with the contactor. The side mount
auxiliary switch may need to be removed and relocated. Refer to HUB DOC-111593 for removal.

For instructions on how to install the shorting bar, refer to HUB DOC-TBD.

See link below for parts selection.

Metasol “Floating” Contactor Issue

Some of the Benshaw to Metasol supersedes have been reported to “float” when
interlocked with some of the combinations available. The issue is caused by the
different frame sizes having different dimensions (which effects the depth of the
contactors). When replacing the Benshaw with Metasol check to make sure that the
frame sizes match if two Metasol contactors are to be interlocked. If they do not match
upsize the smaller frame Metasol contactor to the matching larger frame contactor to
avoid the floating issue. You want to make sure that the interlocking contactors have
matching depth to avoid any issues. Note: Always upsize to the larger contactor, Do
NOT downsize to the smaller sized contactor.
