Cruz, Kyrene Kesia B. 11 STEM-H

The document summarizes a student's work on a lesson about rocks. It includes: 1) Descriptions and differences between igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks. 2) A formative assessment requiring the student to draw and label the rock cycle diagram and create a concept map of minerals and rocks. 3) An explanation of weathering, mechanical weathering, chemical weathering, and erosion in the student's own words. 4) Completion of a graphic organizer on weathering and erosion.

Warm Up Activity
Did you know that there are three types of rocks namely igneous, sedimentary, and
metamorphic rock? For your activity, write your initial description of the three pictures
below and how each picture is different from the other two.

Assessment
Formative Assessment: Activity 4.1 – Modules page 46
A. Draw a complete, labeled diagram of the rock cycle. Remember to include all the
materials, processes and products, and label all the arrows between the
different parts of the cycle.

Pa g e 2|7
B. Construct a concept map of minerals and rocks
Application
Performance Task: Activity 4.2 – Modules page 47
I. Using your own words, explain the following:
 Weathering
- It is a process where it breaks down or dissolves rocks materials on
Earth’s surface. It breaks down and loosen the soil and minerals so they
can be transported away.
 Mechanical weathering
- It is a process of weathering where it breaks down large masses of rocks
through the use of an external force
 Chemical Weathering
- It is another process of weathering where it breaks down rocks through
a chemical process/reaction so it can form a new substance
 Erosion
- It is a process of moving bits of rock, soil or minerals from one place
to another by the use of natural forces such as water, wind or ice.
II. Complete the graphic organizer
WEATHERING
It shapes and reshapes the Earth by breaking down large masses of rocks

ANO EROSION
o eruptions changes the temperature and formation of the crust
Events that shape and reshape the Earth It shapes and reshapes the
Earth by transporting so il
and minerals from one pl ace
to another

CLIMATE CHANGE
Climate change causes the Earth to reshape. The melting of Ice in North and South pole are one of the examples
Values Integration
Bible Verse
“When my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” – Psalms 6:12
Reflection:
The verse states that whenever we feel that our hearts are in trouble, let God make me
firm as a rock and take me higher from where I am now.
Like our lesson, rocks can be broken down into pieces but Lord will always give us a
higher rock and a higher opportunity and hope in life.

Generalization
Traffic Lights
Complete the traffic light below by writing your thoughts about the topic.
RED – Things I do not understand and need
clarification YELLOW – Concept that I need few
clarifications GREEN – Generalization of the topic in
three sentences

One of the things that I don’t understand or in need of clarification are

the types of weathering

The concept that I need clarification are the concept of erosion and
weathering

The topic is about formation of different kind of rocks. It also showed us

the rock cycle and its components. Lastly is how the Earth was shaped
and reshaped because of the various events like erosion and
weathering
