Power System-1 Question

This document contains two sample exam papers for a class test in an electrical engineering course. Both papers contain 5 multiple choice questions worth 1 mark each and 2 longer form questions worth 5 marks each, with an alternative question provided. The questions cover topics like automatic voltage regulator loops, speed governing systems, equal area criterion, generator loading and synchronization, and load sharing between generators of different ratings. Students are required to answer all questions in 1 hour.

CLASS TEST-II (6th Semester Electrical Engineering)

DEPARTMENT OF ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING
SUB:PSOC F.M:15
TIME:1Hour
(Answer all the questions)
1 5X1=5
b) What is DROOP?

c) What are the functions of ALFC?

d) What are advantages of interconnected operation of power system?

e) What do you mean by stability in power system ? Classify it.

2. With neat sketch explain speed governing system? 5

OR
State and explain equal area criterion with neat sketch and write down the applications.

3. A 50 Hz, 4-pole turbogenerator is rated 500 MVA, 22 kV and has an inertia constant ( H) of 7.5. Assume that the
generator is synchronized with a large power system and has a zero accelerating power while delivering a power of
450 MW. Suddenly its input power is changed to 475 MW. We have to find the speed of the generator in rpm at the
end of a period of 10 cycles. The rotational losses are assumed to be zero.

OR 5

Two generating units rated 300 MW and 400 MW have governor speed regulation of 6% and 4% respectively from no
load to full load. Both the generating units are operating in parallel to share the load of 600 MW. Assuming free
governor action, the load shared by the larger unit is ___________ MW.
