ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

First of all, thanks to God because given me and my friends to complete this

task just in time. Even I faced with a lot of difficulties along to complete this task, my

group still manages to complete it.

Then thanks to our lecturer, Mr Nor Fazli Abdul Manan as for being such good

guider for us while we doing this task. He had given us appropriate example and

knowledge in order to make us understand more about this hovercraft design. We

take some idea from the past year’s student’s work. He spends his time to carry out

each and every experiment related to this ecological study. He also makes sure we

understand everything she told and explanation before we begin.

We also wish to thank the members of the group for their commitment and

cooperation during the production of this report. We also want to thank other groups

which willing to share their information and ideas. Also a great thanks to my family

and friend who tried their best to give their support for me either by giving me a lot of

encouragement for keep up with this task or by supporting the financial for use to pay

all the cost required to complete this report.

ABSTRACT

During the semester, we have a report on our hovercraft design phase to

phase. In phase 1 we have to done Identify Problems, Gather Information, Concept

Generation and Concept Evaluation. All this we had done based on research and this

for us to know deeply about hovercraft and to choose the best design for our

hovercraft.

In phase 2, we had done Product Architecture, Configuration Design and

Parametric Design in this phase we had done about ergonomic and anthropometrics,

calculation (buoyancy, lifting power, propulsion power, young modulus, volume, and

area. This all calculation closely related to the maximum weight that can be withstand

and desired speed that we want to apply to our hovercraft and this all calculation

related on fundamental of Mechanical Engineering. In this phase also, we had done

FMEA and this FMEA important for us to improve a certain part in our design to

become more safety to user.

In phase 3, we had done Detail Drawing, Bill of Material, Costing and Final

Specification. This phase is for user to have better understanding about our design.

We also come out with our costing to evaluate our budget and cost for manufacture

the hovercraft. From this phase we also find out where to find our part and

component to manufacture our hovercraft in the future.

INTRODUCTION

Under the subject of Mechanical Engineering Design 1, we had given a task to

design a hovercraft as our mini project. As students who wish to become engineers,

it is crucial that one learns that engineering is more than just coming up with a good

idea, it also entails presenting one’s ideas in a clear and concise manner, proving

and defending one’s ideas, and following through on the construction of the object,

not just stopping at the theoretical, but making one’s theory a practicality. By building

a hovercraft, one gains invaluable knowledge on how to follow through on a concept

and make it a reality, and also learns about the many things that will go wrong on a

project, and how to deal with these problems once they come up. Besides that we

must think all of our design should be manufacture in the future. So we must take into

account all of the constraints before design the hovercraft.
