Why Study Environmental Management System?

Introduction

Implies don’t wait for others to save or planet, because you can save it by starting with
yourself.
The purpose of this essay is to know why we should study Environmental Management
Systems(EMS), concerning businesses and organizations, and find out what will be the effect of
studying it or how can we change/help manage the environment. Contains top 5 environmental
problems in the Philippines, Maximise Resources and major environmental laws, these are the 3
major arguments/points of this essay. Will state what is the connection of these topics into
studying environmental management systems with businesses and organizations.

Body

Based on Environ. (2007), Top 5 Environmental Problems in the Philippines are 1.


Pollution finds in air pollution and water pollution, 2. Global warming, that gases produce it
generates heat causing a change in climate, 3. Overpopulation causes lots of problems like
scarcity of food, resources and having more garbage to dispose. 4. Natural resources depletion,
Mining and quarrying, Unstoppable destroying the beauty of environment like cutting trees that
emit oxygen and help to filter air. 5. Improper waste disposal that may infect people not only
physically but through the air and water.

We can save our planet by maximizing our resources. According to Mark. (2017),
Maximising resources allied with waste reduction. If a business can get numerous uses out of
their raw material this has multiple benefits. Waste reduction – More you can use out of one
source, less you will throw away. Decreasing waste transport costs and transport emissions and
resulting in less landfill. Increased Efficiency – Ordering less instead of multiples can save time
in procurement process, reduce delivery costs and storage space needed. 3. Innovation – Start to
look at resources differently, you start to see more possibilities. All this helps in saving money.

We can help to save our planet by abiding major environmental laws and according to
Republic of the Philippines these are some major environmental laws, R.A. 9003, law about a
systematic, comprehensive and ecological solid waste management program, R.A. 9275, law
aims to protect the country's water bodies from pollution from land-based sources, R.A. 8749,
law aims to achieve and maintain clean air that meets the National Air Quality, R.A. 6969, law
that regulates restrict or prohibit importation, manufacture, processing, sale, distribution, use and
disposal of chemical substances and mixtures the present unreasonable risk to human health.

Conclusion
Here we face the top 5 environmental issues in the Philippines which cause hazards in
our environment, we study EMS to know what is the effect of these environmental issues and
how can we reduce them. In the business and organizations sector, we all know that it also
causes environmental issues, especially in big business and organizations sectors, because they
produce a lot of carbon footprints that harm our environment, so businesses and organizations
must take a step to help lessen carbon footprints by maximizing their resources and abiding
environmental laws.
