Wind Load Analysis [As per IS 875(part 3)]

As per IS 875(part III) , for Kolkata site basic wind speed = Vb = 50 m/s

Design wind speed= Vz = k1.k2.k3. Vb = 50 * k2 * 1 *1 47.5 X k2

Design wind pressure = Pz = 0.6 *( Vz )²

Wind load on individual members , F = (Cpe - Cpi ).A.Pz

Building Height Ratio = h/w = 2.10

Building Plan Ratio = l/w = 1.13

Hence 1.5 < h/w < 6 and 1 < l/w < 1.5
Therefore According to Table 4 of IS 875 we have

Ɵ Cpe
A B C D
0® 0.8 -0.25 -0.8 -0.8
90® -0.8 -0.8 0.8 -0.25

Cpe along width = 1.05

Cpe along length = 1.05
Cpi of the building as per IS 875 = 0.5

Therefore resultant coefficient ( Cpe - Cpi ) is

Shorter frame = 1.55
longer frame = 1.55

Analysis : The analysis of frame is done by the Portal Frame Method

Assumptions :
(i) Points of contraflexture occur at middle points of individual components.
(ii) Shear for interior column is double of that of the end column. (As spans are symmetric)

SHORTER FRAME At first floor level

Calculation : For calculating shear in joints of shorter frame,point loads of longer span occur as lateral load
Maximum shear occurs in case of Joint F of longer span. [From Calculation Table-2]
Considering the frame containg all 'F' joints:
Column Shear -

1st 3.8 Upper 94.65 94.65 189.30 189.30

Beam Moments -
(i) Considering Equillibrium at Joint A :
MAU = 72.22 kNm MAU = Moment in joint A contributed from upper storey
MAL = 94.65 kNm MAL = Moment in joint A contributed from lower storey
MAB = MAU + MAL = 166.87 kNm

(ii) Considering Equillibrium at Joint B :

MAB = MBA = 166.87 kNm
MBU = 144.44 kNm MBU = Moment in joint B contributed from upper storey
MBL = 189.30 kNm MBL = Moment in joint B contributed from lower storey
MBA + MBC = MBU + MBL
So, MBC = 166.87 kNm

(iii) Considering Equillibrium at Joint C :

MBC = MCB = 166.87 kNm
MCU = 144.44 kNm MCU = Moment in joint C contributed from upper storey
MCL = 189.30 kNm MCL = Moment in joint C contributed from lower storey
MCB + MCD = MCU + MCL
So, MCD = 166.87 kNm

(iv) Considering Equillibrium at Joint D :

MCD = MDC = 166.87 kNm
MDU = 72.22 kNm MDU = Moment in joint D contributed from upper storey
MDL = 94.65 kNm MDL = Moment in joint D contributed from lower storey

Beam Shear -
VAB =(MAB + MBA)/LAB = 66.75 kN
VBC =(MBC + MCB)/LBC = 55.62 kN
VCD =(MCD + MDC)/LCD = 74.16 kN
LONGER FRAME At first floor level

For calculating shear in joints of longer frame point loads of shorter span will occur as lateral load
Maximum shear occurs in case of frame containing Joint B of longer span. [From Calculation Table-1]
Considering the frame containg all 'B' joints:

1st 3.8 Upper 82.19 82.19 164.39 164.39 164.39

Beam Moments -
(i) Considering Equillibrium at Joint E :
MEU = 62.72 kNm
MEL = 82.19 kNm
MEF = MEU + MEL = 144.91 kNm

(ii) Considering Equillibrium at Joint F :

MEF = MFE = 144.91 kNm
MFU = 125.43 kNm
MFL = 164.39 kNm
MFE + MFG = MFU + MFL
So, MFG = 144.91 kNm

(iii) Considering Equillibrium at Joint G :

MFG = MGF = 144.91 kNm
MGU = 125.43 kNm
MGL = 164.39 kNm
MGF + MGH = MGU + MGL
So, MGH = 144.91 kNm

(iv) Considering Equillibrium at Joint H :

MGH = MHG = 144.91 kNm
MHU = 125.43 kNm
MHL = 164.39 kNm
MHG + MHI = MHU + MHL
So, MHI = 144.91 kNm
Again, MHI = MIH = 144.91 kNm
Beam Shear -
VEF =(MEF + MFE)/LE-F = 64.41 kN
VFG =(MFG + MGF)/LF-G = 57.96 kN
VGH =(MGH + MHG)/LG-H = 72.46 kN
VHI =(MHI + MIH)/LH-I = 72.46 kN
