Workload Assessment Tool

This document presents a workload assessment tool intended to help schools and preschools identify and address potential impacts of changes on employee workload. The tool involves identifying changes that could moderately or highly impact workload, work health and safety, work-life balance or wellbeing for teachers, leaders and support staff. Consultation with affected employees helps reveal impacts. Based on findings, strategies can be considered to modify changes, such as providing additional staff or resources, adjusting work practices, or not proceeding with the change. Workload Assessment Tool – For Use in Schools and Preschools

It is acknowledged that the workload of employees in schools and preschools should not be excessive, unreasonable or unsustai nable. Any change in
systems of work, or the introduction of a new initiative or program must not adversely impact upon the workload, work life balance or wellbeing of
employees.
The Workload Assessment Tool is designed to assist the School PAC or Preschool Work Group in planning for change by identifying likely impacts on an
employee’s workload, WHS, work life balance and wellbeing.
It should be used to identify and analyse the potential workload impacts so that strategies to mitigate increases in workload can be identified and
implemented
Consultation with affected staff and with the AEU and PSA worksite representatives in the first instance will help to reveal the potential workload impacts.
Based on the information obtained from the Workload Assessment Tool consideration can be given to how the initiative, program or system change might be
modified to address any concerns identified.
Strategies that could be considered to remove or mitigate workload concerns could include but not be limited to:
 The provision of additional staff or resourcing;
 varying the timing of change or the period in which it will occur;
 adjustments to existing work and work practices;
 the use of technology;
 Training and development;
 modifications to the program or the initiative; or
 it not proceeding.
