Steel rules can be used to measure and lay out lines, and rigid ones can cut. Flexible steel rules can measure rounded surfaces. A scriber marks lines on metal workpieces before machining. MEASURED TOOLS:

Steel rules come in rigid and flexible versions. While their primary purpose is accurate
measurement, they can also be used as guides for laying out lines, and if rigid enough,
for cutting. The thinner, more flexible rules can also be used to measure rounded or
cambered work.

A scriber is a hand tool used in metal work to mark lines on workpieces, prior to
machining. The process of using a scriber is called scribing and is just part of the process of
marking out.
The L-square is a two-piece ruler arranged in an L shape. The L-square is used to create
scaled patterns from original sewing patterns. The arms of the square are 14 by 24
inches. Use the square to create half, quarter, eighth, 16th and 32nd scales

A center punch is used to mark the center of a point. It is usually used to mark the center
of a hole when drilling holes. A drill has the tendency to "wander" if it does not start in a
recess. A center punch forms a large enough dimple to "guide" the tip of the drill.
HOLDING TOOLS:

To state in simple terms, a bench vise is a mechanical apparatus used to secure an
object that is to be worked on. It features two parallel jaws as part of the design. The
device is widely used in the mechanical and woodworking industries, among others.

CUTTING TOOLS:
Hand files and flat files are similar tools. They are machinist's files useful for a wide range of
filing tasks. ... Any type of hand file or flat file can be used to put a bevel on the edge of a
piece of metal. They can also be used to round corners and create convex surfaces

Square files are machinist's files that can be used in slots and key ways. They are also used
for roughing (removing material quickly) when turning round drill holes into square slots.
Round files are machinist's files and, just like half round files, they can be used for creating
semicircular grooves, finishing and deburring concave surfaces. They are often used in
jewellery making to create detailed patterns in bracelets. They are also known as rat's tail
files, as they both look similar!

A file card, which is a brush with metal bristles, is used to clean the file. (The name, "card",
is the same as used for the "raising cards" (spiked brushes) used in woolmaking.) Chalk can
help prevent pinning.
Hacksaws were originally and principally made for cutting metal, but can also cut various
other materials, such as plastic and wood; for example, plumbers and electricians often cut
plastic pipe and plastic conduit with them.

chisel, cutting tool with a sharpened edge at the end of a metal blade, used—often

by driving with a mallet or hammer—in dressing, shaping, or working a solid material
such as wood, stone, or metal.
A drilling machine, called a drill press, is used to cut holes into or through metal, wood,
or other materials
