I have here a two puzzle about the story that

you need to build and all you have to do is
arrange it, once you have built it will appear
here as our topic today.

Are you ready class?

Students: Yes, Teacher

Based on the puzzle you created, what was the

outcome? Thea: Animals

to each other

Okay, so based on what you said that became
the outcome of the puzzle, what will be the topic
of our story today?
Anne: The Animal School

Very good!

Let’s proceed to our discussion.

D. Abstraction/Discussion

Now class, I have here a copy of short story

about The Animal School. I’ll give it to you to be
your guide in the story.

Anne, can you read the story.

Anne: Yes, ma’am!

Okay, thank you Anne you can sit now

I have a question.
What made the animals decide on the subjects
taught in school do you agree? Noemi: they decided to must do
something heroic to meet the
problems of a “new world” so they
organized a school.
Nice, and to make it easier to administer the
curriculum, all the animals took all the subjects.

How did each animal react to the problem? Jonna: The animals organized a
school to help their children deal
with the problems of the new
world. And to make it easier to
administer the curriculum of
running, climbing, swimming and
flying, they decided that all their
children would take all the
subjects.
And this produced some interesting issues.

The story looks at how animals behave

differently from other animals. Their physical
characteristics also contribute to their skills and
behavior. In the same way, people have
different characteristics and behavior that make
each of us unique. All of us have different
talents and gifts that makes us intelligent in
different ways.
All: Yes, mam
Do you understand class? All: None mam
Any clarification?

Okay, lets proceed again.

I’ll share you guys a powerpoint presentation,
let me share it on your screen.

better, in fact than his teacher. He also did well
in flying. But he proved to be very poor in
running.

*there is a word highlighted it is EXCELLENT

Sister: Very good
Noemi: Outstanding
Incess: Excellent

Now take a look at the next sentence.

1. The duck proved to be admirable at

swimming.
2. The duck proved to be exceptional at
swimming.

swimming.

Do the words admirable, exceptional and

outstanding have almost the same meaning?

the word. This is call Denotation. It is the literal
meaning or the synonym of the word. This is
often seen in the dictionary.
There are two ways of describing meaning of
words it is Denotation and Connotation.

Denotation: is the literal meaning of the word or

exact word of it, the definition of this is we will
find in the dictionary.
Connotation: it’s what we think about when we
hear a word. It’s what feelings we have when
we hear it or read it. Happy? Sad? Excited?

anyone of a group of a related plants that have
no flowers and live on dead or decaying things.

Once again, all the denotation we need is we

can get in the library.

The possible connotations of the fungus are

ugliness or disease.

Another example:
There are some words have positive or
negative connotation. These depends on the
way a person understands the word. The
connotation can impact whether that definition
is perceived as positive and negative.

Positive connotation is the good feeling or

emotion that is connected to a word.
Negative connotation is the bad feeling or
emotion that is connected to a word.

Examples:
1. My sister was not worried about her assertive
friend.
