Give or share your serious advice to someone with the following concerns:

My best friend is overly loquacious. I

could hardly have my turn in sharing my
thoughts whenever we talk. She wants
to be the one talking all the time. What
can I do to taper her and let me have
my fair share in the conversation?

I

asked my friend to stop for a minute so that it can’t cause a misunderstanding.

I am a timid type of person. I don’t usually start a conversation. On the first day of my new
school, I had the hardest time finding friends since I don’t usually initiate interaction with my
classmates. What should I do?

I think you should avoid talking if you don’t like the person.
Activity 2
A. Identify the strategies used based on the given utterances.
Topic control 1. Now is not the time to talk about that….
Repair 2. That came out wrong…let me correct what I just said…
Turn talking 3. “Good to see you. Anyway, I came to visit you because I want to personally offer apologies for
what I did yesterday.”
Turn talking 4. Hi! Can I ask you a question?
Restriction 5. Excuse me? I think we should speak one at a time, so we can clearly understand what we want to
say about the issue.”
Turn talking 6. Make sure you will write only about the topic assigned to you.
Topic shifting 7. Never mind, it doesn’t matter. Let’s not talk about it anymore.
Termination 8. This might not be the best venue for such a discussion.
Nomination 9. I move to close…
Termination 10. Best regards to your parents! See you around!
Turn talking 11. Do you have anything to say?
Topic control 12. Okay…You have a point , but for me…
Turn talking 13. Go on with your ideas. I’ll let you finish first before I say something.
Turn talking 14. Can you share your thoughts about this topic?
Termination 15. Sorry, I can’t decide on that now. I am still focused on my writing assignment. Let’s talk next
time, okay?”

These instructions confine you as a

all communicators a chance to speak. When
a person fails to wait for his/her turn to

misunderstandings and arguments are likely
to occur especially in situations when both

2. Why is it necessary to assess or evaluate first before ending or terminating a conversation?

In order to gauge how much students have learned, it is not enough to assess their knowledge and skills
at the end of the course or program. We also need to find out what they know coming in so that we can
identify more specifically the knowledge and skills they have gained during the course or program.

 Identify the communicative strategy used.
 What was the result/effect after using the communicative strategy?
 Why do you have to use the communicative strategy?
 Does it help you achieve your goal?

This happened on my friend’s birthday and I’m talking to her mother, we

talked about how is my friend in school, then suddenly I got mental block of
all a sudden and after that I used the repair strategy to avoid
misunderstanding and it actually did. I used the communicative strategy
because it is the only think that I can think of and I achieved my goal
