About IGBC Green Resorts
A Green Resort is one which uses less water, reduces energy consumption, conserves natural
resources, generates less waste and provides healthier spaces for guests’ & staff as compared to
a conventional resort.
A green resort follows a holistic approach where guests’ experience and wellbeing is given
importance. Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), with the support of all the stakeholders from
hospitality industry has launched an initiative “Green Resorts”. The main objective is to facilitate
resorts in implementation of green features and gain the maximum benefits. Approach for
greening a resort is:
1. Pragati resorts, Hyderabad has implemented many of the green features and
is a platinum certified IGBC Green Resort. The signage installed by the resort is
educating the guests and creating awareness about the importance of
environment. For eg., the signage on importance of trees is through monetizing
the value of a lost tree. One 50-year-old fallen tree costs about Rs 400 Lakhs:
• Rs 4 lakhs worth of Oxygen
• Rs 2 Lakhs worth of animal flesh and bones
• Rs 6.5 Lakhs of soil fertility and soil erosion control
• Rs 100 Lakhs worth recycling of water and controlling temperature & humidity
• Rs 281 Lakhs worth of removal of SPM, CO and SO from air
2. The IBNII, Coorg is a platinum certified Green Resort. The project has a
introduced concept of Nature Walk. The guests’ are free to join a local guide for
walking around the entire property of resort and studying the local flora & fauna.
The resort has a Rudhraksha tree in the project periphery and many such
features are highlighted by the local guide.
