Ch : Ratio and proportion, unitary method and simple interest.

Chapter : Ratio and proportion

1. Find the ratio of : a) 12 and 24 b) 950m and 95km c) 15min and 2hrs

Ans : 1 : 2, 1 : 8, 1: 100

2. If x α y , Write the missing values :

X : 10 ---- 3 ---- 30

Y: --- 24 6 14 ---

Ans : K = 0.5, 12, 7, 20, 60

3. If x α : write the missing values :

X: 8 ---- 6 ---- 16

4. Find the value of x if 3.6, 18, 5 and x are in inverse proportion. [25]
5. A school hostel with 50 children has enough provisions to last 8 days. If
30 m0re children move into the hostel , how many days will the
provisions last now ? [ 5 days ]

Chapter : Unitary method

1. If 3 workers can complete a work in 4 days , then how much time will 6
workers take to complete the same work ? ( 2 days )
2. A take 9 minutes while B takes 12 minutes to make a Toy. Working
together how long will A and B take to make 35 toys ? ( 3 hours)
3. Express 9.9 km/h in m/s and 6.3 m/s in km/h. ( 2.75, 22.68 )
4. A train 150m long , pass a platform of 130m long in 8 seconds. At what
speed in km/h was the train travelling ? (126 km/h)
5. Two inlet pipes can fill up a tank in 3 hours and 2 hours respectively. If
both pipes start filling the tank together, how long will it take to fill up
the tank. ( 1 hour 12 min)
6. 3 gardeners take 1 hour to weed a garden. If the job has to be done in
only 15 minutes , how many more gardeners need to be put on the job ?

( 9 more gardeners)

7. 6 workers can plaster the exterior of a building in 5 hours. By how much


can the work force be reduced if the same amount of green leaves is to
be plucked in 15 hours. ( 4 workers)
8. A and B together can do a piece of work in 12 days , while B alone can
finish it in 30 days . In how many days can A alone finish the work ?

( 20 days)

9. A, B and C can finish a piece of work in 12 days, 15 days and 20 days


respectively. If all the three work at it together and they are paid Rs.
960 for the whole work, how should the money be divided among
them? ( 400, 320, 240 )
10. Kajal and her brother Karan leave home for School together. Kajal walks
at 5 km/h and reaches school 3 min late . Karan cycles at 9 km/h to
reach school 5 min early. How far is their school from home?

Ans : 1.5 km

Chapter : Simple Interest

1. A man earns Rs. 247.50 as Simple Interest when he deposits Rs.


20,075 in a short term fixed deposit account for 45 days. What
was the rate of Interest given by the fixed deposit account ?

2. Find the simple interest on Rs 8250 at 8% p.a for 3 years. Also find
the amount. [2310,10560]
3. Find the simple interest on Rs 68000 at 6 % p.a for 9 months. Also
find the amount. [3400, 71400]
4. Rohit took a loan of Rs 19500 from a bank on 24th jan , 2004 at 8 %
p.a and paid it back on 18th june, 2004. Find the total amount paid by
Rohit. [20182.50]
5. How long will it take for a sum of Rs 12600 invested at 9 % p.a simple
interest to amount to RS 15624? [2yrs 8 months]
6. At what rate of interest p.a will an amount double itself in 10 years?

7. How much interest will have to be paid at 8%p.a on a borrowing of Rs.

8. What is the amount to be repaid after 3 years on a loan of Rs 3600 at

10,950 after six months? ( 19%)
10.Find the S.I on Rs. 9000 lent on Aug 10 and received back on October
22 of the same year , the rate is 10% p.a. (1800)
