GRENADIER GUARDS

‘Comfort & Joy’

Director of Music - Captain Ben Mason BMus (Hons), DipABRSM, ALCM, RCAM
Bandmaster - Warrant Officer Class 2 Mattias Andersson BMus (Hons)

T
he Band of the Grenadier Guards is one of the oldest and most iconic military
bands in the world. It has a vast and illustrious history dating back over 335 years –
having been formed under the reign of King Charles the second as part of the ‘First
Regiment of Foot Guards’ (which was founded during his exile in 1656). The Regiment
later became known as ‘The First (or Grenadier) Regiment of Foot Guards’, after victory at
Waterloo. The band is present at all major United Kingdom royal occasions and has
witnessed many of the nation’s signi cant historic events. The Regimental Quick March
British Grenadiers is one of the most recognisable and memorable tunes in the world. The
band is proud to be established with 54 fully trained professional soldiers from The Royal
Corps of Army Music – as one of 14 Regular Army Bands that make up British Army
Music. Throughout the recent history of the United Kingdom, the music of the Band of the
Grenadier Guards has formed the backdrop to its national life and identity – representing
Britain's constancy, dignity and artistry.
