By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to understand modal verbs by circling the correct
LEARNING OBJECTIVES words for 8 sentences, choosing the correct answers for the 6 sentences and circling 16 correct
words in the dialogue.

ACTIVITIES
1. Pupils revise on the topic – Modal Verbs.
PRE-LESSON

2. Pupils turn to page 75 and read the Grammar Box about modal verbs of obligation,
necessity, prohibition, possibility, deduction, advice and criticism.
3. Pupils read the 2 sentences in Activity 2 and identify the type of modals they use and each
of the modals express and in which sentence did something happen even though it was not
necessary.
LESSON DEVELOPMENT
4. Pupils discuss the answer as a class.
5. Pupils read the instruction and a dialogue in Activity 3.
6. Pupils circle 16 correct words in the dialogue.
7. Pupils compare answers in small groups of 3 or 4 before discussing as a class.
8.
9. Pupils review their learning in this lesson by writing gapped sentences using the pairs in
POST-LESSON Activity 3.
10. Pupils then swap with a partner who must write the correct words in the gaps.
