First Visit: Embedding Action Research for Reflective Teaching

Resource Teacher: Christy M. Encarnacion School: BCNHS

Grade/Year Level: Grade 9 Subject Teacher: Cookery Date: 11-10-2021

Participate and Assist

You must have experienced to your past subjects, doing some activities or accomplishing
tasks similar to action research. These are activities that required you to do Reflection and
Make Action or the other way around. Schon (1987) distinguishes Reflection in Action or
Reflection on Action as two different things.
Perhaps your mentor teacher has already done an Action Research. Now is the opportunity
for you to participate and assist in ways that you are capable of doing.
Here is what you will do.
Making a List of Completed Action Research Titles by Teachers in the Field
1. Make a library or on-line search of the different Completed Action Research Titles
Conducted by Teachers.
2. Enter the list in the matrix similar to the one below.
3. Submit your list of five (5) Titles of Completed Action Research Studies to your mentor as

Action research seems easy and familiar. Since teaching seems to be full of problematic
situations and that the teacher has a responsibility of finding solution for everyday problems
in school, hence teachers should do action research. This is an exciting part of being a
teacher, a problem solver!
Let us continue to examine and analyze what you have noticed and interpreted in the
previous activity.

REFLECT

1. What significant ideas or concepts have you learned about action research?

I learned that research has a purpose and it is not just for the sake of knowing
something. Research aims to identify a problem and solve it as soon as possible.
Research is important especially to our students because it allows our students to be
aware of what’s happening in our environment.

2. Have you realized that there is a need to be an action researcher as a future teacher?
Yes _✓__ No ___. If yes, complete the sentence below.

I learned that by having an action research you can be aware of what’s happening
around you and it can help you in the teaching your students because you have
acquired a lot of knowledge by doing your action research. Making action research
can improve your thinking skills and improving your thinking skills will have a good
result if you want to become a teacher in the future.

2nd Visit: Creating my Classroom/Remote Learning Management Plan

Resource Teacher: Christy M. Encarnacion School: BCNHS

Grade/Year Level: Grade 9 Subject Teacher: Cookery Date: 11-11-2021

Participate and Assist

After realizing the different elements and steps of a classroom/remote management plan, you
are now ready to make your own plan which you can implement in your classroom/remote
learning. You may request a copy of the Classroom/Remote learning Management Plan of
your Resource Teacher or you may surf the internet for more samples/examples to guide you
in creating your plan.
Be guided with the guide questions for each of the elements. Follow these reminders in
writing your plan:
• State your plan positively.
• Use simple specific terms.
• Use measurable and observable behavior.
• Convey expected behaviors.
My Classroom Management Plan
Philosophical Statement
I believe that learning is the most important thing that a must get from a classroom, students should
gain knowledge when they go to school, and students mustn’t go home empty handed. I know that
the parents of the learners entrusted their children to me they believed that I can teach their children
proper etiquette and the right things that they must learn in order for them to face the challenges that
lies ahead in the real world. I want my students to be good not just in academic but also in
performing and my students should now how to apply what they learn in class in real life. I am
committed I making my classroom a safe and comfortable place for my learners. The Students
needs should be meet and they must be always taken care.

Classroom Rules and Procedures

1 | Page Field Study 2

2
My classroom should have peace and order and the students should follow the rules that is being
implement Inside the classroom to achieve peace and order. My students and I should plan the rules
before we implement the rule everyone should agree with the rule. Our rule should be for the good
of everyone and it should not violate my student’s rights and freedom. Our rules should include not
being late and staying neat and tidy when they enter the classroom. For those student who can’t
abide with the rules a punishment must be given to them so the rules importance would be instilled
in their minds.

Teacher – Student Relationships

Students should feel that the classroom is their second home, they must feel comfortable
inside the classroom and they should also feel comfortable sharing their problems to their
teacher. I want the students to comfortably share their personal experiences without them
thinking that they are judge and they must also learn to respect the teacher and their
classmates. Conflict must be settled immediately and the students must be able to
understand each others differences and respect each others culture and belief. The teacher
is always ready to answer the students curiosity and the teacher must be their be on the side
of the students if they ever feel left out and alone. The teacher should not be bias to a
student and the teacher must treat every learner equally.

Schedules and Timeframes

Time is very important inside the classroom a classroom who doesn’t value time is an
irresponsible classroom, being punctual is highly appreciated, and an early bird student is
highly praised. Students who are late will be given punishment so they will learn that time
is valuable in our classroom and time should never be wasted. If we have an event in our
classroom we won’t wait for the late comers if the teacher will say that the event will start
7:30 in the morning the event must start 7:30 in the morning. Regardless of the reason a
late comer should be punished especially if the cause of the student being is just traffic
being stuck in traffic is not a proper reason to be late. Students who knows the value of
time are well disciplined students that is why being on time is important.

Classroom Structure, Design and Arrangements

A clean classroom is good not just for the teachers but also for the students if a classroom
is clean the students will likely be inspired to go to school everyday students being absent
will be minimized. Classroom design should be clean and minimal the design should be
minimal and the teacher should avoid over decorating the classroom to much decoration
may lead to a messy classroom. The classroom design should have a value a decoration
should have importance and the décor shouldn’t be put there just for the sake of being put
there. The Decoration should stand through the test of time the decors should be sturdy and
strong for it to last for the years to come. Decorations should match the students needs and

1 | Page Field Study 2

2
well arrange. The students chairs should be in the middle the trash can should E beside the
main door the comfort room should be located in the back of the classroom. The
blackboard should be well cleaned and must be located in the front of the classroom and
the students chairs should be well spaced out to accommodate their movements.
Classroom Safety Rules and Procedures
Inside the classroom students safety should be the priority parents entrusted their children
to the teacher because they believed that the teacher will take care of their children that is
the reason why the teachers must ensure the students safety. The teacher must minimized
and maybe avoid sharp objects or objects that can harm the students. The teacher must
check if the students brought a knife to ensure the their safety. If the teacher will conduct
an activity and that activity will include a knife the teacher must always supervise the
students actions. The teacher must constantly remind the students the things that They must
do and mustn’t do to avoid accidents inside the classroom. To ensure all of the students
safety each student must watch each others back they classroom should assign officers and
those offices should be the most responsible in the classroom the officers will help the
teacher watch their classmates.
Strategies for Rewards and Consequences
The students who will do good will be awarded and students who made a mistake will be
punished. Students who made a mistake have to pay a 1 peso fee and their payment will be
collected by the classroom treasurer and the money will be saved. The saved money will be
used to buy foods for the children’s Christmas party so the students will be delighted to
pay the 1 peso fee and at the same time avoid making a mistake. The Students who are
very hard headed will have to clean the classroom along with the cleaners and students
who won’t listen to their teacher their parents will be called to talk to the teacher so the
teacher would know why the student is like that.

2
After reading and reviewing the classroom/remote learning management plan from different
sources and creating your own plan, answer the following questions.
1. What salient components have you noted?

I noted that that the students are the focused of the components and most of the classroom
learning plan is focused on the students will being.

2. Why is there a need to utilize the information to create your classroom management
plan?

A classroom management plan needs to be planned well and needs to ensure everyone well
being and if it is not planned well conflict may rise due to lack of understanding and not
considering what the others need. Utilizing information to create a classroom management
plan is important to make sure that everyone’s needs will be met and everyone’s deferences
well be respected.

3. What were the significant things that you noticed when you were implementing your
plan?
I noticed that everyone well being is important I noticed that I must think for everyone
wellness before I can Implement a certain law. I must know and understand my students so I
know what rules I am going to implement so I would know what are the things that they
need.

4. Were there items in your classroom/remote learning management plan which were not
tailored to the needs of your students? How will you improve on these?
As I made my classroom management plan I first understand my students I get to know them
first before I made my classroom management plan. My management plan is highly tailored
to match my students needs and it is solely focused on my students and I didn’t made any
Management plan that was not focused on my students.

5. What elements in your classroom/remote learning management plan were mostly

followed/complied with?

The most followed element in my learning plan is the well-being of my students. My learning
plan requires the help of others And it also requires the full commitment of my students. My
students full support Is required so that my classroom management plan will be fully realize
but most of the elements of my classroom management plan is well followed.

6. What elements in your plan were the most difficult to implement? Why?

29 | Page Field Study 2

The most difficult to implement are the rewards and consequences because not everyone
well agree easily on the things that they must do and must not do and we must carefully plan
the punishment so no one will be violated.

REFLECT

What your realizations after creating and implementing your classroom/remote learning management
plan?
I realize that being a teacher is a very hard thing to do, a lot of things rests on your shoulders and
every student must be carried by you. What I am trying to say is that when you become a teacher you
must learn how to handle the responsibilities that lies ahead being a teacher is a difficult job because
not all students are the same, every student is unique and have their own sets of beliefs, actions,
attitude, and etc. When you are making your classroom/remote learning plan you must consider all of
your students you must know whether this plan will affect this learners or not you must first know
your students before you start implementing your classroom plans. I realized that the teachers plan
and actions is focused on what the learners must learn and not everybody can appreciate it. I realized
that when I will become a teacher someday I must know and understand what is best for my students
and I must start with my classroom/remote learning management plan.

A learning plan is very important not just for the students but also for the teachers because a good
learning management plan can help the teachers in efficiently teaching their students. A learning
management plan is like a guide that manages the teachers actions and motives inside the classroom.
A good learning plan can determine whether that session between the students and the teacher will be
fruitful or will be a waste of time. I realized that you must carefully make your learning management
plan because it is very important in the classroom settings. There are a lot of things that you must
consider before you start with your classroom learning management plan and one of the most
important is the safety of your students.

Basic Foot Massage Steps:

1. Hold the bottom of the foot

with both hands. Begin rubbing the top of the foot, slowly
working your way down to the sole of the foot. Apply more
pressure as you get closer to the sole. Reverse directions
and rub the foot moving slowly towards the top, reducing
pressure as you go.

2. Rub the heel of the foot. Use

your thumbs for this, making small circles with medium to
heavy pressure. Work your way around the entire heel.
Repeat this action on the ball of the foot.

3. Use cross-fiber friction on the

heels of the feet. This means you use your thumbs to
push up and down on the heel. While one thumb is pushing
up, the other should be pushing down.

29 | Page Field Study 2

4. Massage around the ankle
bone. Use both hands to rub in a circular motion around
the bone on either side, and gently rub your fingers over
the top of the bone.

5. Use a fist to massage the

arch of the foot. With your hand closed in a fist, use the
tops of your fingers to apply pressure to the arch. Roll your
hand back and forth to knead the skin gently.

6. Massage the toes. Spend

time on each individual toe.
Tips and Warnings:
 You’ll need to apply lotion or other essential oils in doing
a massage to prevent friction burns.
 Creams tend to be thicker than lotions and work well for
foot massages.
 Oils work to soften the rough calluses on the bottom of
feet and you can also warm the oil or cream to make it
more comfortable for the person receiving the massage.
These are the things you will need to perform basic foot
massage:
Lotion or liniment oil foot towel
Cushion or pillow small plastic chair

1. What difficulties did you meet in writing your lesson / learning plans?
As I started making my lesson plan there are some issues that I encountered and one of the
issues is how to plan an activity for my lesson because you have to think outside of the box
and you have to know whether that activity fits the lesson that you have. I also have a hard
time aligning my lesson outcome with my procedures and those two where the most
challenging hurdles for me when I made my lesson plan.

2. What feedback was/were given by your Resource Teacher in your first draft/succeeding
lesson/learning plans?
My resource teacher gave me a good feedback and said that I must also know my students so
that I can make my activities appropriate for them. I must also take note of the time and my
activities should be simple and not time consuming. I must also consider the situation of my
students if they can handle the activities and if they get bored easily.

3. What were the best features/areas for improvement of your / lesson learning plans?
I think my lesson plan is appropriate enough and I don’t see anything to improve but if I were
to improve something those are the activities but the again I must also consider the time that
is why my activities is a little bit crammed and not well polished.

REFLECT

Why is lesson planning an integral part of the instructional cycle?

A lesson plan is what helps the teachers when they are teaching their students it is a guide
that they must follow so that they will have a smooth discussion. A lesson plan helps teachers
achieve what they want to achieve on the end of a class session it is what keeps them in check
if they ever get lost with their idea on what they must teach their students on that particular
day. When a teacher makes a lesson plan it also gives them a vision on what they must do
inside the classroom they will also have an idea on what the possible problems that may
occur during the session. A lesson plan also helps other teacher gain some idea on how they
must teach by studying other teachers lesson plans. That is the reason why a lesson plan is an
integral part of the instructional cycle.

Using Robert Gagne’s Nine Events of Instruction, what did you notice in the following
segments of learning:

• How did the students react to the activities/various elements to arouse their interest?
The students reacted positively towards the activities. The activities used were very
entertaining and that the reason why the students reaction were positive and overall
they were happy with the happy.

• Were the students focused when you were stating the learning objectives at the
beginning of the lesson?
The students were focused when I stated the objectives because I made sure to catch
their attention. I made sure to catch their attention in the beginning of the class
because the objectives is very important.

29 | Page Field Study 2

• How did the new learnings relate with what they really know?
The students were able to compare their own learning with the right and correct
answer and for the question and answer I was able to confirm that what they really
learn was inline with the things that I want them to learn.

• Did you notice some students who needed assistance? What did you do?
In noticed that some of the students needed some assistance and I guided them
throughout the lesson and I didn’t leave them behind. I answered all of their questions
and when they maid a wrong answer I corrected them so they will know that what
they think is the right answer is wrong and they will know what is the true answer.

• Did the students find difficulty in applying the theories/concepts learned to real life?
The students didn’t find the theories difficult to apply in real life because I related my
examples in real life so it would be easier for the students to learn about it.

• How did your students react to your feedback?

The students reacted positively towards my feedback because I made sure that my
feed back would not sound like I am scolding them. I told them the pros and cons of
their output and made sure to correct their wrong doing but in a positive way.

• What piece of evidence can prove that the students had retention of learning?
The peace of evidence that should the students had retained their learning is the part
were the students used their gained knowledge in the real world. They are able to
apply what they learned in a real life situation and this indicates that the students
really remembered what they learned.

After planning your lesson(s) you may be requested by your Resource Teacher to
deliver the lesson(s). Your Resource Teacher will use a classroom observation sheet to

Having implemented several lessons in your Cooperating School under the supervision of
your Cooperating Teacher, in what areas of the lesson do you need to improve?
As I finished the lesson I realized that there are a lot of areas that I need to improve and the
areas that I need to improve are presentation of lesson, classroom management, and personal
competencies. In the presentation of lesson I need to improve my mastery In handling
speaking the language because how can I become a good teacher if I can’t communicate
properly and how can I transfer my knowledge if students cant understand what I am saying.
In classroom management I need to improve my leadership skills because how can I control
my students if my students doesn’t listen to me. For the personal competencies I need to
improve my professional appearance because I can see that in front of my students I don’t
like a professional and those are the things that I need to improve.

5. As the situation would permit, try out the resources/materials with the students. Be
sure to follow the steps on using instructional materials found in the Infographics
section of this Episode.

After you participated or assisted in using resources/instructional materials in teaching

learning, describe what you observed and experienced by answering the items below.

1. How did you prepare for this activity?

First of all I planned what the activity is and my activities should be entertaining so my
students won’t get bored during the lesson and I also want to capture my students
attention so that they will learn a lot from the lesson.
2. Describe how you or the teacher utilized the resources/instructional materials. Narrate
your experience as you participated and assisted.
My cooperating teacher did most of the talking and he used the instructional materials to
help him teach the students. He used the Laptop, projector, and ppt to present the students
the lesson. After that he showed the students a Video and used the instructional materials
most of the other materials helped him present the topic. The instructional materials made
the topic much more understandable for the students because as the teacher explained the
topic he also showed some examples using the instructional materials.
3. What were your feelings and thoughts while you were assisting with the use of the
resources/materials?
I was glad with the things that I saw and I realized that teaching is a very fun and
interesting experience you get to met new people everyday. I also realized that
instructional materials can help you tea h a learner. It was a very nice experience and I
had fun doing it.
4. Describe how the students responded and participated.
The students were very cheerful and they participated in the activities that was given to
them by the teacher. The students enjoyed the session and they were entertained by the
teachers jokes and they also liked the infotainment that was showed to them by the
teacher and it made the students interested to lessen to the topic.
5. What worked well during the activity using the resources/materials?

29 | Page Field Study 2

The teacher had a hard time setting up the instructional materials and it caused a lot of
time but the teacher has sorted it out and the class was finished without another hitch.
6. What part can be improved?
The class went smoothly but I realized that there are things we can still improve the first
thing that we must improve is to prepare the materials ahead of time so we can start the
class on time and we won’t waste time. The second thing that we must do is to avoid
Doing a lot of jokes, jokes are good but to much can also waste precious time and it
might cause for the students to be distracted and might render the entire session to be
useless.
7. What would you have done differently? What would I change? What will make it
better next time?
If I was the one who lead the class I would have prepared the instructional materials
earlier but that is all that I want to change because the class had a smooth discussion and
the objectives were met at the end of the end of the lesson.
8. How does this connect with what you know about selecting and using instructional
materials?
I understood that teaching is important and you can teach effectively with the aid of
instructional materials. Careful planning for your lesson goes a long way and you must
correctly choose your instructional materials to help you in teaching.

REFLECT

1. How ready am I in selecting and developing resources/instructional materials in the

teaching-learning process?
After the session I can see that I am ready in selecting and developing resources/instructional
materials because I have helped my resource teacher in teaching the students. I can see that I
have the skills to do this things and if given the chance I can also do it my self.

2. What do I still need to learn to select and develop resources/instructional materials in

teaching effectively?
When we finished the session I notice that I must first understand my students before I
implement my planned resources/instructional materials because I must first know what my
students wants and needs to be able to connect with my students. I learned that connecting
with your students can help remove the rapport that you have with your students and when it
is done properly you will have a smooth discussion.

3. What can I do to learn more about and practice the use of resources and instructional
materials?
What I noticed during the session is that in order for you to learn more about the planning and
practice the use of resources and instructional materials you must always watch how veteran

teachers do it and then you can copy what they do and add your own style in it. Experience is
a great teacher so in order for you to learn more about it you must first experience it but also
with the help of experienced teachers.
