1.1 Overview
The Alcatel 4059 MAC (Multimedia Attendant Console) terminal, also called SBC (Screen
Based Console), is a Windows™ graphic application which is used to activate all the functions
of an attendant console on a compatible PC. This application also provides the maximum level
of comfort and user friendliness.

1.2 Reference to Other Modules

The SBC 4059 terminal is described in the following modules:
- Basic description (see module Alcatel 4059 attendant console - Basic description ).
- Hardware installation (see module Alcatel 4059 attendant console - Hardware Installation ).
- Software installation (see module Alcatel 4059 attendant console - Software Installation ).
- Configuration procedure (see module Alcatel 4059 attendant console - Configuration

2.1 Basic Description

The startup procedure provides multi-user access to the SBC application. Users are only
required to configure and manage the display screen. Installation data management is
common for all users.
Due to the user-friendly multi-windowing feature, the PC used does not have to be exclusively
dedicated to the SBC application. It can also run both standard applications, such as word
processing or spreadsheet programs, and PCX applications such as system management or
the infocenter. For an incoming call, an attendant working in another application can connect
with the SBC application to handle the call.
The Alcatel 4059 MAC application is equipped with a specific Alcatel keyboard for enhanced
use of the attendant workstation.
The Alcatel keyboard is a PC type keyboard with an added set of function keys. An audio
handset can be connected to the left or right side of the keyboard.
To supplement the features available on an attendant station, the 4059 SBC offers
applications that extend the attendant's capabilities:
- Supervision of a list of items
- Use of system directories
The screen displays the following windows:
- Information (BLF, programmable keys, attendant console status, etc.)
- Call handling
- User input keys
All subscriber-related information is displayed on screen to allow the best possible service to
be offered.
For information on using the console, refer to the Alcatel 4059 User Manual (see module
Alcatel 4059 attendant console - Introduction to the 4059 Attendant console ).
Note: As from R4.2, the number of attendants resulting in modification of the display can be managed by
configuring a programmable threshold (1 to 20).

5.1 General Information

To put an Alcatel 4059 MAC attendant console into service, the console must be configured on
the OmniPCX.
As of R4.2, the system administrator can configure a threshold which indicates the maximum
number of attendants allowed. Beyond this threshold, incoming calls are displayed differently
on the console. The limit for changeover from "list" mode (call represented by a line and its
characteristics) to "counter" mode (call represented by a vertical bar) can be configured in the
Attendant Group object. This number may be up to twenty.
Note: This limit is set at six attendants for 4400 versions running a release lower than R4.2.
