Lesson Plan in English Grade 9

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
a. Identify preposition and prepositional phrases.
b. Express understanding through answering questions.
c. Show teamwork during class activity.

II. Subject Matter

a. Topic: Functions of Prepositional Phrases


b. Reference: English Across Continents 9 (K to 12 Curriculum Compliant)
c. Materials: Visual Aids

III. Procedure
1. Preliminaries
 Prayer
 Greetings
 Class orderliness

2. Review
 What is Physical and Geographical setting?
 What is temporal setting?

3. Motivation
 The teacher will ask 3 students to be in front.
 The teacher will give them instructions to be done.
 The teacher will give them a short scenario and let the students act the given
scenario within 2 minutes.
 The teacher will ask the following questions?
- What have you observed in the presentation?
- What is the function or the purpose of the bridge in the scenario?

4. Lesson Proper:
 Lesson presentation: Functions of Prepositional Phrases

Activity:
 The class will be divided into four (4) groups.
 Each group will form a vertical line.
 The teacher will show some flash cards.
 The teacher will let students remember the content of the flashcards.
 After 10 seconds, the teacher will ask some question.
 The first student to answer will be the first in the line and the rest will face at the
back.
 If the student can’t answer, he can say “pass” and the next student will answer
the given question.
 The score that they will get must be based on the correct answers they’ll have.
 Group that has a number of correct answers will be the winner and will get 30
points. Second will get 25 points, third will get 20 points and fourth will get 15
points.

Analysis
 Based on the activity you’ve done earlier, what are those things that were being
shown from the flash cards?
 What are those prepositions being used?

Abstraction
 What is preposition?
 What is prepositional phrase?

Application
 Why is it important to use the appropriate preposition in a text?

IV. Evaluation:
In a ½ sheet of paper, underline the correct prepositional phrase. Copy and answer. 2
points each.

1. I will put my toys (in the box, under the box) and I’ll give it to my cousin.
2. Lisa was (in the classroom, on the classroom) yesterday.
3. My pet is hiding (on the table, under the table).
4. Many people protest (against the new rule, for the new rule).
5. Pedro receives a special gift (by his employer, from his employer).

V. Assignment:
 Have an advance study about writing a descriptive Essay about places or locations.
